Help! Problems with color processing!

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi, I can't seem to get any color in my LRGB images. I am using a ST2000xm with the CFW8, SBIG IR blocked filters.
I'm using CCDsoft to align and combine the 4 images into LRGB but when they combine they seem to be totally B&W! I can make adjustments in Paint Shop Pro to bring out color but the color doesn't look very nice. Is this what I am suppose to do? And with practice I will get better or should the combined image have some color to begin with? I am attaching an image og M17 that I collected last night. L=20 min. R=15min G15min B=15min. color 2xbined. As you can see, absolutly no color! Is it to short of exposures or am I doing something else wrong? I've got Ron W. book but I am a little confused about the color processing.
Thanks for any help anyone can give!!!!!! Tom

M20 last night

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi, This is an attempt of the Trifid Nebula last night. I'm still trying to figure out the color processing thing but seems to be getting a little better. This is 20 min. each RGB,(I screwed up the Lum. image so this is just RGB) It is shot thru a C11 at F6.3 with a ST2000xm. Well, any help out there??? Thanks, Tom

M27 (Little Help From My Friends!!!)

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi All, I have been having a heck of a time with my color processing! I couldn't get my color images to come alive. Some might remember my old posts and many have tried to help. Well, I finally broke down and PM'ed fellow Amarter Eric Africa for some help. He had me send the LRGB raw images to him so that he could attempt to solve my problem! I really had thought I had purchased some used planetary visual filters or had the filters in the wrong positions or a million other problems!!! He sent his completed image back this morning along with a very precise Processing Workflow Sequence that is very easy to understand. I can't thank him enough for his help! I asked if I could post OUR image and he agreed so here it is.

Cocoon Nebula last night

Posted By Tom Osterholt

I received my NGF-S focuser yesterday so I thought that I would try it out. I have been having a problem refocusing between filters ( laziness ) but this makes it easier. It did cause some vignetting with my C11 at F6.3 due to the added focal reducer length. I used flat frames for the first time and was able to clean up most of the images. The blue was so bad that the flat didn't help much. The image is 45 mins lum, and 20 mins R,G and B. I'm still new at processing so please bare with me.
Thanks, Tom

NGC7331 and the deer lick group

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Thought that I would post my newest image of NGC7331 that I took a few night ago. It is a 2 hour exposure, L=60 R=20 G=20 and B= 20 min. I took it thru my C11 at F6.3.
It is taken with a ST2000XM. I am still working on the processing but I am beginning to think that you are never quite finished working on the processing (always tweaking it) Thanks for looking, Tom

20 year old Albireo

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Here's a picture of my old buddy Albireo. We have had her for over 20 years. Not really sure of her age, my wife took her in (along with her two kittens) right before we were married. She was living the tough life of a stray mama cat living in an apartment complex dumpster prior to her adoption. She has out lived her kittens and a couple other of our cats! She sits with me out on the patio everyday of the year!

Autoguding an SBIG camera thru SS2K??

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi,
Does anyone know if I can plug my ST2000xm autoguider cable directly into the autoguider port on my SS2K hand controller? Or do I need something from Vixen to make it compatible. Last night I tried to use my GPDX with SS2K for imaging for the first time and I couldn't get the mount to calibrate with CCDsoft or CCdops. It is as if the autoguider is not attached. I couldn't get it to move the scope. Am I missing something???? Thanks, Tom
