Uranometria2000

What are the differences between the Uranometria 2000 and the Night Sky Observers Guide? I have the Night Sky Observers Guide but when is it time to warrant the purchase of Uranometria 2000?

Astronomy Magazine VS. Sky and Telescope

Posted By john shea

I have not read Astronomy magazine in some time. While at the newstand this weekend I noticed that Stephen O'Meara is one of the writers. Is Astronomy Magazine setting a new direction? There are also a couple of new writers on staff.
On the other hand Sky and Telescope is the king when it comes to Astronomical publications but I find it a very difficult read. One seems to have to be well versed for many years or have a physics degree to understand most of the articles. Am I alone in this.

Beginning Observing

Posted By john shea

Is it best to concentrate on one constellation and really get to know it and spend a month or so observing all that is within that constellation be that variables, doubles, etc and then and only then to move on to another constellation?

Seems to me doing it this way one would develop an intimacy with the objects within it.

thanks

Telrad bad experience

Posted By john shea

Thanks for all the comments. Not did my telrad have a couple of chewed tabs on the underside from the base screws but putting it on a granite surface it was not square so this added to my problem of stability. I added the good ole duct tape on all four tabs and this has taken out all movement and firmed up the entire unit. Looking forward to the next observing session to see the results.

Telrad bad experience

As a second thought I am going to replace the steel screws in the base with nylon screws. This should eliminate the "chewing" of the tabs by these screws.
