Lagoon Nebula

Posted By Greg Bradley

here is another new target for me. The Lagoon Nebula. This is in Sagittarius which is now quite high in the sky here late in the night.

Quite a pretty neb. I'll be targetting that one again.

N11, D70.

Tarantula Nebula

Posted By Greg Bradley

I hope you are not afraid of spiders!

Not the most beautiful neb but one you may not have seen before. This is in the Large Magellanic Cloud (it and the Small Mag Cloud have lots of nebs).

Ist time imaged for me.

N11, D70.

Trifid Nebula

Posted By Greg Bradley

I can see why this is a popular photo target. Very pretty. This shot with only about 7 exposures came out better than I expected.

Will try this one another time with more exposure and with a refractor for sharpness.First time imaged a number of these targets and it is quite exciting seeing the results after an all-nighter.

N11, Nikon D70 7 x 45 secs.

Ghost of Jupiter

Another new target for me.

This is quite a bright object.

A single 45 second exposure was quite bright, this is about 6 of them stacked.

Omega Centauri again

Posted By Greg Bradley

Not to overdo this one, but Omega Centauri is in prime position for imaging at the moment being near the zenith early on in the evening. It looks like a beehive.

13 x 20 seconds, D70, N11, dark site.

I think I can do better with my FS 152 once I sort out the tracking.

Modded Nikon D70

Posted By Greg Bradley

I am impressed with the performance increase of my Nikon D70 by removing the std UV/IR block and replacing it with clear optical flat glass from Edmunds Optics and a Baader UV/IR filter.

Eta Carina, only a single 30 second shot from my backyard under a half moon.

Much increased data recorded but white balance becomes critical otherwise it is excessively red.

Looking forward to a dark site and no moon.

Modded and Unmodded D70 - M42

Posted By Greg Bradley

Here are 2 images of M42 taken with the same telescope.

The reddish one is taken with unmodded D70 with red pumped up in the processing the pinkish one is taken with a modded D70 with the red reduced. There are a similar number of exposures stacked.

It shows the better recording performance of the camera without the burden of the harsh cutout filter. The 2nd shot was also taken under a half moon.

Both are framed poorly! but serve as a demonstration.

FS152 and Modded D70 Jewel Box

Posted By Greg Bradley

The FS152 is stunning. F5 (Celestron F6.3 focal reducer and Baader UV/IR block.

3/4 moon, 8 x 20 secs, Modded D70.

Haven't quite mastered the white balance which has blocked out the more colourful stars in this cluster (there are a couple of red, yellow and blue stars in it visually).

MI 250 unguided.

Great setup
