If you want to go low budg, add a 10mm (or 9) and a Barlow and you'll effectively have 25, 12.5, 10 and 5.

I would personally include a 32mm as a nice to have with that scope. After a certain point, it's better to go buy one of the Celestron kits which are very inexpensive and a great value. Beyond that, you get into more specialized or premium eyepieces.

BTW, the motion is great from zenith until about 45 degrees. After that, it will continue down.

I'm hoping that adding a couple more of the disks will add enough surface area to increase the friction, although the additional surface area will decrease the PSI so I don't know if that will be the solution. Wish I was more of an engineer type.

Orionn 10xt inteligent scope?

There are a lot of great scopes out there that are often made at the same manufacturer. Check out Hardin Optical as well. These Dobsonians have nice optics, decent focusers, and will provide lots of fun.

I haven't used the intelliscope models. Are you interested in having the scope tell you where the objects are or do you want to find them yourself? Given that the "intelliscopes" controllers to make them intelligent aren't included in the price, that feature may be a complete waste of funds.

Renting a Telescope

I don't know of any rental places, but if your budg is $200, why not apply that toward a scope? Chances are, you can get a nice grab and go that will be usable any time, not just a weekend. For my money, I'd put it into something that I get to keep!

I'm toying with the idea of doing some comparisons with a 10" Dob and a diminutive ETX.

Depends on seeing conditions, dark adaptation of the eyes, etc. Averted vision helps in a lot of cases.

Won't look anything like the mega exposure pictures, but doing is much funner.

Vibration dampening on a DOB

I have some vibration from the rocker box where the lag screw goes into the base. I'm going to see about adding a metal sleave around the lag screw to act as a bearing so the wood isn't subject to friction. I'd be happy to hear how others have dealt with that.
