Saturn-big $ scope,small $ webcam, & poor focus

Posted By Tom Gwilym

Thats a good start though. I took my first saturn image for this season last night. I'm not too pleased with it, I am out of practice with planets since I've been doing DSO stuff all summer. That is easier to focus than a planet!

Question on registeration and stacking

Posted By Tom Gwilym

Try Registax, Skeye, and K3CCDTools.

I don't have the URLs at the moment, but a quick search on www.google.com will find them.

I use them all the time for my images:

Saturn Improvement

Nice one!

Now if you have good enough seeing, try taking off the f/6.3 and you can get a much larger image. Harder to aim, but worth the effort.

Having a hard time with jupiter

Here is my first attempt at Jupiter this season.
Meade LX90 2x barlow
stacked with approximately 300 frames.
Had some trouble focusing, but the red spot does show.

Better webcam choice?

Posted By Tom Gwilym

Those are VERY good for a first try! Keep practicing with that camera and I'm sure you will get even better images. I have heard that the ToUcam is one of the best for planetary work, followed by the Vesta Pro camera.

See my work with a Vesta Pro on my site:

...and another from the night before of the "boring side" of Jupter, but a nifty shadow of Io on the cloud tops.

Scope was my C8 at f/2.8 (Meade F3.3 focal reducer), Camera was my ToUcam SC3 RAW.

Very nice work with such a simple camera!
