Bridger-Teton Saved

Posted By Eddie Kirkland

After viewing many western national forests, I suppose all the thousands, if not millions of acres of burned over and insect destroyed timber look more pleasing to the eye that a managed green forest. What logging industry? Over the last twenty years logging in that part of the country is almost dried up; most of the markets have been forced to shut down for lack of raw material.

Right Angle, Erect Image Finders

I have an Antares 8X50 RACI finder that I like alot; it is superior to a friend's Orion, IMO.

I recently bought a Nighthawk (SV 80/f6)which was about a year old and paid $250 for it shipped. I've seen them going on Astromart for $250-300 shipped.

MBSP

Posted By Eddie Kirkland

Luckily my vacation plans (destination and dates) coincide with the MBSP, so I plan to spend a few days (and nights) there. From Alabama I may be awarded the prize for greatest distance traveled. With all the amenities on site, it will be a nice way to break my wife in on star parties.

See you there.

Celestron StarHopper 8" Assistance

Posted By Eddie Kirkland

Hi Alfred,
I owned one of these for 3 years and was very pleased with it. My optics were very good. The movement of both axis were smoother than the newer ones of all the makes out now. I did have to bend the stalk slightly, but once is all that you should have to do; it holds collimation very well. The collimation knobs should be more than sufficient for further tweeking. I liked the fiber tube better than the metal ones. For $200, go for it.

Curved Spiders

Posted By Eddie Kirkland

Floyd, I contemplating getting James to build me a 10" f/6 and have asked him if he could install a curved spider instead, but haven't heard back yet. Were their any problems with installing the 4-vane curved spider in your Astrosky? I guess you had to go with 4 instead of 3-vane based upon the existing supports on the Astrosky UTA?

Doug, that's a beautiful looking scope!!! Be sure to bring that beauty down to the Chiefland Star Party in November. I should have my 10" f/6 Astrosky with Stevens primary by then also.

Nighthawk II or ZS 80

Posted By Eddie Kirkland

I have the Nighthawk II with single speed crayford focuser and am very pleased with it. The views are very sharp. There is a way to adjust the tension on the focuser for heavier eps.
