Osama in the Box.

Posted By James Brown

Darrell, with all due respect I think that the Osama in a box conspiracy is really lame. If GWB had caught him, he would have revealed him right away.

If we had OBL, why would the president take the body shots from Kerry in the debate about not finishing the job in Afghanistan, and unwisely diverting attention to Iraq etc.?

If we had gotten him, Bush could (rightly or wrongly) proclaim the Afghan mission a success with the capture of OBL and free elections. Kerry could hardly rebut that.

Sadly, OBL is still at large.

p.s. do you really think that a secret of that magnitude could be kept out of the world press?

Meade Buys Coronado? Good Grief!

Posted By James Brown

I too have a beautifully machined PST, which I love. We all have read quite a bit of speculation along the lines of "how can Coronado make such a great high-tech product for $500.00?" Well, maybe they can't. I would not be surprised to see a big price increase (merely to include a profit for Meade.) Who really knows though? - Jim -

It's gonna be a nail-biter

Posted By James Brown

Electoral-vote.com now has Bush holding an Electoral college winning 281.

However, they have Michigan going Bush (over the Detroit machine's dead body that is) and Colorado going Kerry based on the goofy Zogby poll discussed above. I love ev.com's graphic, but their methodology is flighty and way too biased to the left. - Jim -

My current favorite is the Real Clear Politics chart. Sure he's a right winger. Sure he hates Zogby. But his methodology is vastly more statistically sound than ev.com's.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/Presidential_04/RCP_Electoral_Count_Chart.html

In case the link does not work RCP has the electoral college thusly:

Bush: 232 Kerry: 207 Too close to call: OH PA FL WI MN NH and IA. I find that analysis to be absolutely plausible. - Jim - (unlike Ev.com's treatment of CO and MI)

Final Battleground Poll

Posted By James Brown

Yesterday we had a good historical and political discussion on this forum of why in my opinion:

a. what you say is true, and

b. I am OK with it, and

c. It is appropriate in my opinion because the US is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy.

A second Civil War?

Posted By James Brown

Don, Interesting post, but with all due respect, civil war ain't gonna happen.

Unfortunately, if it is close (and it sure looks like it will be) there will be unseemly litigation and sour grapes. That's gonna be about it though.

We will go to work on Wednesday, do our jobs, love our families etc. no matter who wins. I certainly hope and fully expect W. to be more gracious in defeat (if necessary) than Gore was. I fully expect some of the more rabid wingers in this forum to predict the end of the world if their man does not win. They will be wrong. - Jim -

Interesting comment from the "Votemaster"

Posted By James Brown

Maurice:

I follow the Votemaster's blog daily, and you Maurice have a lot more credibility with me than he does.

That being said, the anti-American sentiment the Votemaster describes causes me great personal grief. I want to be liked, and I want our Nation to be well regarded. On the other hand, my firm's European patent associates are Dutch. They assure me that anti-Americanism is rampant in the European press, but not so bad on the European street.

Although I personally want the world to love the U.S., I have to ask if it is really a big deal if a portion of the world, in particular "old Europe" sees us as a "bully." Some of that is unavoidable being as big as we are. Business and trade concerns will trump these I hate the U.S. sentiments in the long run I expect.

I personally can recognize a lot of reasons why the war in Iraq was possibly a big mistake for the U.S. Many of those reasons have been well articulated by you and others on this forum.

I have to admit that the condemnation of old Europe is not one of those reasons. - Jim -
