Is there anything that the left claimed to be a conspiracy theory regarding Twitter...

Hi James,

We discussed this some time ago.  Sedition did not used to be the more serious crime, it was a misdemeanor.  If I remember correctly, in the mother of all ironies, Trump and The Rs in Congress upped the penalty as a shot across Hillary's bow.  Does that ring a bell?  Maybe it was before Trump, but IIRC, the penalty for sedition was relatively recently increased from misdemeanor to felony.  Oops.

Happy 2023!

The 14th amendment doesn't indicate "sedition" as a charge that can be used to keep him out of office.

I don't think we disagree Richard, but I'm not sure.  No one gets criminally prosecuted for violating the 14th Amendment.  They have and do get prosecuted for violating the federal criminal statutes I linked to above.  Of course the authority for the criminal statutes is derived from the Constitution, including the 14th Amendment.  That is why the "hold no office" clause is included in the treason and insurrection statutes of Title 18, but not in the sedition statute.

It is an anomaly that the sedition statute carries a greater jail term at the maximum than Treason, for example.   The "oops" moment was when the Rs changed sedition from a misdemeanor to a felony.  A lot of Proud Boys wish they had not.

The statutes are pretty clear.  Read them.  If the government thinks they can apply them, and prosecute anyone up to and including Trump, I presume they will.  The rest is just political posturing by you and your soul mates on the left...

No. no posturing by me, as I'm just putting up the facts which the leftists here are in utter denial about.

Greg put it succinctly some time ago that the leftist politicians are worried about Trump running and I pointed out what myriads of others have pointed out, and what leftist politicians have admitted flat out, that they are going to try whatever they can and use whatever means necessary, to keep Trump from being able to hold office.

When numbers of them, politicians, and leftist political pundits, both on TV and in other media have flat out admitted to what their method is and these guys here on the left say they aren't, it strikes me that they are the ones posturing.

When 40 leftist Democrats actually introduce a bill for passage that lays out precisely there method for being able to keep Donald Trump for running for office by using the language of the 14th amendment, who is posturing?

Certainly not me.

Lastly, these leftists here are the furthest thing from my soul mates.  I think you might want to look in a mirror and see who the soul mate of the left is.  He'll be staring right back at you.  smile
There are only three ways I can think of to keep Trump from running again:

1.  Impeach and convict. (Too late now I suppose?)
2.  Convict under the treason statute (linked earlier)
3.  Convict under the insurrection statute (linked earlier)

Personally, I think there is just about zero chance of any of the above happening.  So, the whole debate about w/n Trump can run again is just political posturing.  Not that there is anything wrong with political posturing.  Just say'in.

Now, the bit about you being immune from political posturing in this thread (or anywhere) is just hilarious.  Know thyself Rich.  You posture with the best of them.  You and Rod are soul mates in the "opposites attract" fashion.  Think Carville and Matalin.  Jim

You sure seem to enjoy putting up fantasy created out of whole cloth, as you have there claiming falsely that I said I'm immune from politically posturing.

That assertion is something you're now making up.

When did I ever even say that?  Here's a fact, I didn't.

I can be just as guilty of that just as you have been in the past.

What you did is make a charge that I'm politically posturing with respect to the Jan 14th issue.

The left may be posturing, but bringing forth facts regarding what they are doing isn't posturing in any sense of the word.

Words matter.  You being a lawyer should know that.

And your ridiculous analogy about Soul Mates has to be one of the most comical remarks I've heard in some time.

I'll give you kudos for stretching credulity beyond belief.   LOL  smile
I'm confused, so you are saying that you and Rod are not opposites?

Here is the interesting question James -

1.  Does Richard know that most everything he posts is political posturing,1 but he denies this obvious truth because he fully embraces the DJT "I win every argument and never admit I'm wrong" school of debate, or

2.  Does Richard actually believe that most everything he posts is objective truth?2

Jim

1.  Just like the rest of us.
2.  Scary thought.

Either your reading comprehension is awful (plenty of evidence for that), or you are completely ignoring what Jim wrote merely to be argumentative and sniping to score some cheap points in your mind.
I also mentioned Carville/Matalan.  That is a famous enough pairing for everyone to get my point, I think?

In any case, everyone should understand the that the gist of my "soul mate" comment was that Rich postures in like kind and like magnitude as any lefty.... any lefty here, in the press or anywhere.  He loves to posture like Pelosi loves to posture.  They are soul mates in the posturing realm.  With opposite content of course.

I know I don't have to explain it to anyone but Rich.  He is being argumentative because that is what he does.  It is like breathing for him.

This is an interesting diversion.  The sort of thing you have described happens from time to time.  Opposites can attract my friend.  Think Carville and Matalan.  There are other famous opposite couples I suppose.  Maybe this is why you are single?  Are you looking for a man or woman who shares each and every one of your beliefs, habits, and charming personal characteristics?  I gotta tell you, that person probably does not exist!

In the realm of love, your soul mate is the person you are committed to deeply and profoundly, i.e. to the depth of your soul.  Agreeing on politics or recreational activities might help get the process started, but that is not the point of finding and becoming bonded to your soul mate!   This is obviously not what I was talking about when I said:

Good point, I should not have phrased it that way!

It has to be almost embarrassing for you James, that you get everything completely backwards and wrong.
Yes, I used soul mates twice.  It seemed a good and more importantly, humorous turn of phrase.  I still like it.  The unexpected word  is one key to humor, ya know?  By using soul mates in this fashion, I had hoped to convey, "two people so dead-set in their posturing that they actually believe they alone hold the key to objective truth, even though the truths they hold are (a) just posturing, and therefore opinions, not truth at all, and (b) exact opposites.  But that long and drawn out definition is so pedantic as to not be funny!

I stand by my phrase.  Your soul mates on the left Rich, are those hard-core lefties who are as supremely positive they are right and you are wrong as to make meaningful discussion impossible.  Trevor Noah or Samantha Bee would have been far better examples than Rod, since Rod knows when he is posturing, and apparently you do not.

This is subtle misdirection of course.  You were responding to my second use of soul mates.  See your reply 142.  Not that it matters, James is 100% accurate, which is typical when he engages with you at all.
