GOP senator to introduce bill to sanction Canada over wildfire smoke

"Do something about it?"  What exactly do you DO to prevent forest fires in tens of thousands of square miles of impenetrable, roadless boreal forest?   Access only by float plane or lengthy canoe trips.   The Ontario boreal forest is more than twice as big as the entire state of Michigan.  DO?   DO?

The summers up there are much drier now and noticeably warmer due to global warming.  Dry lightning strikes start the vast majority of these fires.   Then the winds blow the smoke wherever.

My pessimistic view, sadly, is that the forest fires will continue and become even more frequent over the years.  The new reality.

I was being facetious Dave. With the whole climate change denial it's the things that they aren't doing that I was implying. Nincompoops are running our governments. I fear this is just the beginning of something that can't be stopped at this point and it'll only get worse for my kids and grandchildren.

Still supposed to open July 27th. Seems about a year late, it's been finished for some time now.

My Canadian friends are not happy with Carney. Tho if he hadn't made some kind of deal with Trump it'll be delayed a lot longer.

Sucks, I've been wanting to ride my bike over. My friend and I actually did that back in the 70's going across the Ambassador Bridge. Can't believe they'd let a couple of 12 year old boys do that back then, we had no ID and certainly no passports. They just asked us where we were from and it was welcome to Canada boys. We had a plan to stuff our high handlebars full of firecrackers to smuggle across but we couldn't find a fireworks store. grin

It'll be interesting to see if this trend holds up with more progressive candidates prevailing in the party.
Nothing I'd like more than two years of a lame duck president.

The bridge opens Monday. Two separate opening ceremonies, one on the US side and one on the Canadian side. That totally sucks. Trump's treatment of Canada is mind boggling for this life long Michigander. Canada as always been our good neighbor.

I'm looking forward to riding my bike across. I love the riverfront looking across at the Detroit skyline. I ride the Riverwalk in Detroit often with a great view of Windsor so it'll be nice to ride the other side. Back before 9/11 we went to Windsor often just for dinner and once a year to watch the Freedom Festival fireworks. Better view of them from Canada than the Detroit side.

It's hard to imagine the Republicans will suffer anything other than a miserable defeat in the midterms right now.

Remember those signs from 2024 about vote Trump for low prices and Kamala for high prices? They seem absurd now.
Everything he said Harris would do he has done. Mind boggling he has the support he does, but his true believers don't care and have selective amnesia.

BTW it was sad watching him trying to be funny at the WHCD. John Stewart had a hilarious take on it last night. The looks on the faces of the audience at the dinner were priceless. I'll bet he doesn't attend next year.

Anthony Fauci, the hero and near GOD-like figure for at least 2 leftist Democrats here, who when faced with irrefutable facts about this megalomaniac, are still in denial and in Love with Fauci. Fauci's diary is written below and exposes him.

Funny how Davis does the same thing to you that he accused Rod of doing to him in which he got all indignant about. So hypocritical.
