Having an AR-15 rifle image on the lapel as a moniker for the 2nd amendment is just that.
The illegal use of any weapon, not just AR-15 to commit a crime is not the intended purpose of any weapon that is legal in this country and only results in criminality in a seriously infinitesimal percentage of the use of an AR-15 rifle as it was intended, which is for hunting and self-defense.
Let's say for example that there are 2 Million AR-15 rifles currently in this nation, since we know that there are 300 Million guns in this nation in the hands of the people.
Let's now say that there are 10 Million uses of the AR-15 rifle in this nation every year, since they are used for everything from killing varmints on farms, to practice shooting, to sport shooting contests, etc...
Now then if there are 2 million guns being used for good riddance of removing varmints, snakes, and pests on farmland, and for self-defense each year, but yet are also used by villains in illegal fashion to go on murder sprees, then the legal uses OUTWEIGH the illegal uses every year by about a million to one ratio.
So the Non-intended use illegally of the AR-15 results in deaths of innocents very infrequently.
What is the result and the intended result of the Abortion action?
It is specifically used to KILL a baby in the womb, to KILL an INNOCENT human life in the womb.
That is the intended purpose of abortion in this nation,
What is the result of uses of abortion in this nation? 100% DEATH of an innocent baby, AS INTENDED.
So in other words the abortion procedure is intended and designed to KILL an innocent child and does so 100% of the time it is used as it was intended to be used.
The AR-15 was NOT designed to kill innocents in this nation, and when used as intended does not kill innocent people 99.999% of the time that it is used properly and as designed.
If anyone wants to make an equivalency of the wearing of the 2 lapel pins, he/she is free to do so.
There is no comparison as far as moral relevancy is concerned.
The wearing of the AR pin was not to celebrate the deaths of innocent lives taken.
The wearing of the "I LOVE abortion" pin seems to me to celebrate the act.
Hi Rich:
Thanks for the reply, I was not asking for a long discussion of the moral equivalency of legal abortion with legal gun ownership. We both know that this is an endless debate that will never be resolved. You also know that I personally agree with you on a lot of points regarding the morality of many abortions. I am not insistent however, that my religious and ethical points of view be enshrined as a law, when so many well intentioned people, more than half the population, disagree with me.
I was asking about the politics of these pins. In my view, these pins are both big middle fingers to the opposing politicians. These pins clearly indicate to me that the politicians who wear them value divisiveness and some sort of rhetorical "win" far more than they value cooperation, service to the public, and reasoned legislation. I agree with Brian, and I also agree with him that the voting public is so polarized that these sort of divisive statements are probably effective politics. Jim
