Jupiter f10 7/16

After comparing different avi gammas, the 130% was best (vs 110, 120). I also tried stacking anywhere from 150 to 800 frames and found 400 to be the best compromise between graininess and sharpness. Next time out I will leave the lymax cooler and observatory fans running up to 1 hour before I intend to image. Image is still washed out but a little better.

First imaging

Guy, great images! It would not be suprising if the Radio Shack webcam was using the same chip as the Toucam. Try stacking different amounts of frames, sometimes you can improve the detail by using less. Not sure what gamma setting you used but you may be able to increase the capture of details by increasing it 10-30%. With Jupiter so low in the sky, the atmospheric seeing may be limiting what your scope/cam can really do. Good luck and keep posting

3D (Jupiter, Io) transit

Nikon D90

Kerry, While the D90 may give excellent resolution at that frame rate, the actual recorded image size will most likey be too small to matter. I have a D70 and it is approximately the same as a 27mm eyepiece, which is around 1/7th the size of a Toucam image at f10 prime focus.

Previous data pre-processed using ninox, cropping/centering to 400x400, default stretch & input filter. 450 frame stacks, 200 for blue. Ninox really helps the Registax alignment significantly. The rings, however, seem much thinner, also Titan got cropped out.
