Stood in the rain for 20 minutes

The Hedgehog Report has predicted a Bush upset in MN. What is your take as a man on the street?

Reasons to take heart if your guy loses

Posted By James Brown

Paul, I beg to differ. I am more confident of Rudi Giuliani winning in '08 than I am of Bush winning in '04.

You make a good point about the Senate though. That is a huge silver lining to me if Kerry wins.

So, I think (barely) that Bush wins in '04, Giuliani wins in '08 and '12. And Barack Obama, who in 2014 will switch parties and become a moderate Republican wins in '16 and '20. Twenty more years of Republican leadership in the bag! wink - Jim -

Congratulations

Thanks. I like you guys too much to gloat. I have posted before that things in the U.S.A. will be OK. You will see. - Jim -

Now; on the gloat thing. I have been listening to Randi Rhodes on Air America during drive home time for a month now. She must have known that Florida was going down since all she talked about yesterday was disenfranchisement and so called Republican fraud. I would like to send a little gloat her way!

And I'll send some gloat Michael Moore's way too. Young slackers do what young slackers always do in an election! Thanks for the underwear man. wink - Jim -

Thought for the Day, 04.11.04.

Does this explain why 1/2 of the population is so absolutely certain that Iraq is a disastrous quagmire? Or does this explain why 1/2 of the population supports the President? Or both? 8)

The next time I fill up my very sensible Subaru automobile I will pause to thank the allies on behalf of the untold thousands of Iraqis who were not murdered by Saddam and his evil thugs, since Saddam has been deposed.

Also, a quick Google found this PBS site that shows Iraq supplying a paltry 4% of our (US)oil consumption. Is this current?

That's Outrageous

One of the lawyers in my office experienced a different spin on the same theme. At his daughter's graduation this fall he had to sit through at least 15 mini-speeches by all of the co-valedictorians caused by grade inflation. cwy

Rice as new SS

Posted By James Brown

"Class, can you all say "toady"?"

Now that's singularly intelligent commentary, just what we need more of you know. Thanks for your well reasoned input Ray.

To paraphrase you from below Ray; "Could you please document a source for your idea that Dr. Rice is a "Toady"?" Randi Rhodes perhaps? Maybe you are a White House insider? Sheesh.

For the rest of the forum participants Dr. Rice's bio is here:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/nsc/ricebio.html

She is clearly well qualified for the position, intelligent, ambitious and focused. Time will tell whether she has the diplomatic skills to succeed. Certainly the situation in the Middle East will offer her the opportunity to be either a historically significant success story or a failure. Time will tell. I wish her well. - Jim -

"did Bush really gain among "all demographic groups except the very young"?"

I think so, based upon way too much post election data perusing.

Here is one site of many that shows Bush gaining across the board (from the 2000 results):

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html

This site does contradict my assertion with respect to the gay vote though. - Jim -

Replacement?

Posted By James Brown

"Condy Rice replaces Colin Powell. Wow!...
That's like replacing Norman Schwartzkof with Pee-Wee Herman....The brilliance of fearless leader is astonishing."

Which part of Dr. Rice's resume justifies your derision Darrell?

Is it her academic accomplishments? Is it her accomplishments to date in public service? Is it the fact that she's a woman? Is it the fact that she's black? Is this just something you have a feeling about?

Perhaps you've met Dr. Rice and General Powell, and thus formed an independent opinion?

Please explain. - Jim -

Re: Why the Free Press Is

Posted By James Brown

Ray you have proved my point. Thank you. To the extent you know anything about the topics you listed, you ultimately owe your knowledge to the "press." (Unless you have first hand knowledge of course, but so far you have not claimed anything like that.)

I think the problem may be that you are limiting your consideration of "the press" to so-called mainstream media which is national in scope i.e NBC, CBS the NYT etc. That definition is quite narrow and unnecessary under the 1st Amendment. Every self-published small time pamphleteer is part of the press. So are the college newspapers. So are a lot of Blogs. These alternative sources are part of the whole, and fully protected under the 1st Amendment.

"I have no idea of your intelligence level"

Can't you read? I have posted a lot on this forum over the past year. Much of it is almost intelligible. I have three university degrees. I am an attorney in the somewhat intellectually challenging field of patent law. I did vote for Bush though, so I am, (as you would say), a moron.

"but you are uninformed as most Americans are."

Do you find that your arrogance is burdensome? Or does omniscience merely make your life boring?
