I guess if you accept that kind of explanation, then there shouldn't be an FBI most wanted list (is that "political" too?), and/or relatively few people die in fires each year compared to the 321 million we got left so why fund fire departments, etc. Where do you draw the line Jim? How many cases and perps of seditious conspiracy are acceptable? Are they political prisoners, too?
Rod - you did not read my post carefully. (Or maybe I did not write it carefully?) I am advancing two separate thoughts that must coexist.
1. I have always supported the prosecution and jailing of actual criminals, especially the Jan 6 seditionists. I've posted on this extensively, I agree with you on the prosecutions, and I fully support law enforcement rooting out and prosecuting criminal extremists, and I always have, as I have posted here for years.
So, your characterization of my view as,
"so the few thousand extremists or the ongoing mass shootings don't amount to a hill of beans and it's all "politics"... is hogwash. I was probably not careful enough when I wrote my original post to make my law and order stance clear. You did read all of the posts I have made supporting the prosecutions, within the bounds of due process? When you say something like,
"Where do you draw the line Jim? How many cases and perps of seditious conspiracy are acceptable? Are they political prisoners, too?" you are clearly arguing with someone who is not me.
2. Do you understand the above? Hopefully yes. Then my thought two is this: The democrats and the left-sympathetic portion of the press have over-politicized the actual threat posed by right wing extremism
to a nation as robust as ours. Of course they did, it is hard-ball politics!
So, those are my two thoughts. Summarized as this: (A)
"Criminal Justice in a Nation of Laws" >>>> Prosecute the bastards to the extent provided by law. Root out their cells and toss them in jail, to the extend consistent with due process and other constitutional safeguards. There is no way you will find me defending criminals who are duly prosecuted. They are dangerous and the law exists to protect society from these bastards.
(B)
"Politics" >>>> Those who say we almost lost the nation on Jan 6, or those who say that white supremist terrorism is the greatest threat facing the nation today are playing politics. You don't have to agree with me, but please don't extrapolate this political point of view into some sort of
"How many cases and perps of seditious conspiracy are acceptable?" The answer is zero are acceptable (duh). I can say this, knowing that zero is not practical, and also without thinking that anything more than zero means the end of democracy in the United States.
