Mars and Sunspots on June 20, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here are images of the Sunspot group 779 and Mars from earlier last week.

Seeing has not been very good around here what with some thunderstorms, 100F+ heat and smoke from about 14 wildfires all blazing within 100 miles of my house. But we keep at it.

Luminera first light (don't laugh...)

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is one of 3 images that are from my first light with the Luminera075C camera. The seeing was not good, but I am starting to get a little handle on this camera. I think the quality of the images could be better, even past the seeing but it will take time and lots of questions to those who know more than me. These questions I will post in the Luminera Forum that Paolo created.

Basically this image is a stack of 1500 images out of 2300 shot at 57fps....that's a 40 second Avi!! It was shot with my C925 and 2.5x powermate. I can sure tell the chip is larger from the smaller image. I find that at 57fps it is harder to focus, maybe something I have to get used to. Also, I find that enlarging and/or rotating the image degrades it more than with the Toucam. Won't be until Wednesday evening that I'll image again likely....but I'll stay with it.

Comments welcome!
Paul

Mars June 27, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here are two images of Mars I shot June 27, 2005. Image one was shot with the Toucam and my normal settings. The second image was shot with a Lumenera075C camera. Both shot at F/30. I'm still climbing the learning curve on the Lum. Seeing was not very steady. The Toucam image shot at 10fps, the Lum at 57fps.

Rumor about M51

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

I heard a rumor....actually more than a rumor as it came from IAUU, that there is a 13-14 mag Supernova in M51 right now. Has anyone heard or looked?

Mars and my last Jupiter of this season

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is likely my last Jupiter of this season and an image of Mars. Seeing was not good for either image. Can you believe that in a couple of months, Saturn starts to become observable again!!

Mars July 3, 2005

Hi all,

These are better images, maybe seeing is better, maybe I'm getting a better handle on the new camera. I still am shaky on how to properly adjust colour with it though. The B&W was shot with the Toucam as the software we use with the Lumenera has a bug that makes it's B&W mode terrible. Maybe the authors will fix this, I hope!!
