AP: Judge rules Donald Trump defrauded banks and insurers while building real estate empire

Easily dealt with.   Summary judgement is fully consistent with due process.   Trump had the chance to defend himself and lost.  He lost totally and completely after having his side fully heard.  Read the Court's Order at the link Russ posted and educate yourself.  The part of your post I bolded above is one sentence that includes two of the biggest misstatements of the law in the history of this forum.   I call them misstatements.   Of course you would call them "lies."   Jim

The screen shot attached to your post is extraordinary James.   Trumps lawyer's made bogus arguments once, and the Court warned them that the arguments were losers and borderline sanctionable.  Trump's lawyers appealed, and lost on appeal.  Then, amazingly, the lawyers made the same bogus arguments again,  lost again and were sternly warned.  They lost on appeal again!  Then, in the present case Trump's lawyers make the same losing arguments a third time and are sanctioned.

Amazing!  And some would have us believe that the judicial system is broken and Trump was "denied due process?"   Wow.  Maybe in all fairness the Court should give Trump a fourth bite at the apple?

It is hard to believe any sane person would blame the Court for this fiasco.   It is even harder to believe that any lawyer would make sanctionable bogus arguments three times after losing twice before, on appeal!

Personally, I'll take the analysis of the Felix Frankfurter Professor Emeritus of Law who taught Constitutional Law at Harvard for more than 50 years over a glorified bookkeeper in Colorado to get my legal expertise and education.  I certainly don't need any lessons from you but thanks for offering up your novice opinion on the matter.   smile

Here's what Alan Dershowitz stated and it is his learned opinion that Trump's Due Process IS being trampled on by these prosecutors:

https://dailycaller.com/2023/09/08/opinion-get-trump-prosecutors-are-trampling-on-due-process-alan-dershowitz/

Headline:   ALAN DERSHOWITZ: ‘Get Trump’ Prosecutors Are Trampling On Due Process

From the article:

When it comes to the timing of Trump’s trials, the goal of the “get Trump” posse is to secure convictions and try to influence the November 2024 election. Even if these convictions were subsequently to be reversed on appeal, they will have served their intended purpose in influencing centrist voters, which is why they are prepared to rush to legal injustice—to serve what they view as “political” justice.

As of now, with the exception of the one trial that’s scheduled to begin next month, the rest are scheduled right in the middle of the primary season, beginning in March.

As a lawyer with 60 years of experience litigating and teaching about complex criminal cases, I have absolutely no doubt that a fair trial cannot be accomplished within this time frame.

The same is true of the D.C. case, where the judge insisted the public has a right to a speedy trial under the 6th Amendment. “There is a societal interest in providing a speedy trial separate from, and at times in opposition to, the accused,” Judge Tanya S. Chutkan said when setting the date.

This is nonsense: Only the defendant has the right to demand a speedy trial.

You might take note of that to curb your ignorance about the speed of the trial.

Any defendant SHOULD have the right to TIME to prepare a defense, and dummies out there who can't seem to grasp that simple fact, need a to learn something about Due Process.

And so permit me to educate you 'Lawyer'.  Saddling a defendant with over 12 MILLION Pages of discovery documents and expecting the defendant to be able to mount a defense in less than 8 months is beyond absurd, and the hack Judge who expected that, the leftist Judge Tanya Chutkin violated his due process right then and there.

Let me offer you a suggestion, learn something from Dershowitz, then you won't sound like the regular excuse making liberal you are.  smile
Which part of Dershowitz's analysis supports your earlier idiocy of:, "Trump got no due process because the Judge's RULING WAS a summary judgement and Trump didn't have the ability to defend himself.  That is a FACT, so deal with it."?

You will dodge and lie of course, but everyone else knows that Dershowitz is talking about different cases than the real estate fraud matter that has been pending in New York for many years.

CNN: John Kelly goes on the record to confirm several disturbing stories about Trump

I agree 100%

Meanwhile, the public still prefers Republican policies:  https://news.gallup.com/poll/511979/neither-party-liked-gop-holds-advantage-issues.aspx  I understand this of course, but it amazes me.

Honestly, I have no idea what to think when the polls show Trump leading Biden.   Has the voting public, at least those who are polled, become entirely cynical?  I wonder if Trump's fairly durable lead will swing any time soon, maybe after today's circus in the House?  Jim

I can’t believe it either.  We’ll know once a few primary votes have occurred whether our bubbles have insulated us from the opinions of legions of die-hard Trump supporters, or whether Trump’s polled strength is unwarranted.

CNN: House fails to block effort to oust McCarthy

When I first read that 100% of the D caucus voted along with a handful of R radicals to oust McCarthy, I thought wtf, the Ds could do a lot worse than McCarthy, is it worth it just to embarrass the other side?   I also thought, do the Ds want a government shutdown that bad, because that is what they may get in 45 days?

Then I realized they will probably support McCarthy or his reasonable replacement in exchange for Ukrainian war funding.   Easy peasy, just hardball politics.   This is the sort of tactic that makes the public hate Congress though….

I'd be interested in how many Rs voted for Nancy Pelosi?
I'm not personally blaming the Ds - I'm suggesting that their joining with 8 MAGA congressmen to oust McCarthy was possibly short-sighted.   The D caucus could do worse than McCarthy, I think.  More importantly, if this maneuver results in gridlock, up to and maybe including government shut-down in 45 days, who is the public going to blame for the gridlock?

I'll answer that question myself.   The Ds are going to blame the Rs and the Rs are going to blame the Ds and the independents and centrists are going to ratchet up their disdain for the entirety of Congress.   I do not see a winner here.   Clearly the D caucus would not have voted unanimously to jettison McCarthy unless they thought that they would win concessions in the short term.  I am wondering out loud if that will work for them.   Time will tell of course.   J

I am blaming the MAGAs, most especially Gaetz by the way.   I agree with Newt here:   http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/10/03/newt-gingrich-matt-gaetz-remove/

ABC News: Trump allegedly discussed US nuclear subs with foreign national after leaving White House: Sources

I'm not sure I understand your point Jim.   The press is balkanized, same as much of the voting public.  The press and social media created the publics balkanization, as I posted a few weeks ago.   I think this is an important topic to explore, but it got little traction here.

Anyway, you make it sound as if this is a "Fox News" or Righty thing.  There is no way you could be that naive.   The Lefty press ignores stories that reflect poorly on Biden.   They do it every day!  I could post about a thousand examples, but I still have a day job (for about 86 more days)!  cool

Anyway, here is a fairly complete recounting of this story in the New York Post, which as James will tell you is a just a scurrilous right-wing shill tabloid!

https://nypost.com/2023/10/05/trump-discussed-capabilities-of-us-nuclear-submarines-with-australian-billionaire-report/

I also saw the story reported on some local Fox affiliates, but it does seem to be missing from the Fox national web page.   Maybe Fox thinks it is Russian disinformation?  That is the lame-o excuse the NYT or WaPo or CNN tend to use when they spike a story that reflects poorly on the left.

At this point I just can't see how anyone, but especially folks in the military and those, who in the past, were right wing hawks can condone what Trump allegedly has done concerning the military and specially his handling of classified materials. As James stated earlier what Hillary did is nothing compared to this.
You are right that some folks may never see this (or other stories embarrassing to the left) because their bubble is just that strong.  I think this is a serious problem in the USA and like I mentioned, I blame the media and social media for exploiting and emphasizing the human tendency to tribalism.
