Reasonable points - from my perspective, the only reporting I see from the NYP is what is picked up on Real Clear Politics or other aggregators.   In other words, I've never picked up a paper version of the tabloid in Manhattan and read about Andrew and Megan, or the woman who had a baby with eight tentacles fathered by an alien.

So the stuff I have read is almost always right-wing, and in the case of the Hunter Biden laptop story was in fact the most accurate and appropriate journalism being done in the country on that particular story.   All of the non-tabloids were busy ignoring the story, or repeating outright lies foisted by the administration.   Sure, people can differ as to the importance of that story with respect to Joe Biden, but no one should condone the initial press-aided cover up by the supposedly more respectable factions of the press.

Yes, it was spoon fed to the NYP!  So what, I am not demanding a Pulitzer for them.  My point is that it was factually Hunter’s laptop and the emails on the drive were factually Hunter’s emails.   These are facts that the more prestigious press ignored.   The more prestigious press also lapped up the false “Russian disinformation” angle pushed by the administration.  I believe this is an example of bias blocking journalism, which I think is common in our era, much to our collective woe.  

In other words, this example is an important insight into the failure of the press to fulfill their role in a free society.   It is not an attempt to draw equivalence between Biden and Trump.   At least not by me.   Some others do that every day.

Democracy dies in darkness.   Indeed.  That WaPo masthead is truth, but grim hypocrisy as well in 2023.

Was anyone else shocked and appalled by Hillary Clinton's choice of words yesterday?  She called for the "formal deprogramming" of Trump's cult members.  This is literally Orwellian.  Or maybe more literally Huxley-ian.  Totalitarians to the left of me, totalitarians to the right, and here I am, stuck in the middle with you!

To my knowledge James has never lumped Matt Taibbi in with the right wing nuts you link to now and then.   Personally, I think Taibbi is doing some of the best and most important journalism being done today.   He may be a "nut" but he is an old-school, liberal, 1st Amendment, anti-totalitarian, freedom loving, once and hopefully future ACLU type nut. 

As far as being a shill, I am sure Matt Taibbi absolutely despises Trump, his governance, and Trump's despicable totalitarian world-view.   Trump is low-hanging fruit. I am extremely glad Taibbi is undertaking the job of exposing the excesses of the government we have. 

The baseless IRS visit to his home, while he was testifying before Congress on governmental abuses of privacy, is ripped from the pages of a cheesy novel.   That sort of thing, and all of the many abuses exposed by Matt Taibbi in the name of battling "disinformation" should give us all pause.

Frankly, I'll go out on a limb here and predict that James is somewhat to very concerned about governmental invasions of privacy, in the digital age.   The difference between he and you is that James knows it could be far far worse under the Trump administration.   I doubt that this observation excuses the present abuses in James' mind, but explaining these distinctions in an on-line forum to inflexible partisans is difficult.  Jim
