I wish one of the guru's would jump in here. My question is, how much would it cost, and maybe more importantly, how much difference would it "really" make? Plus, is there any danger of messing up the corrector. My understanding is that Celestron never coated their correctors because the glass is not very well annealed and might not take a run through a coating process.

Gosh Floyd, the reason I traded was because the exit pupil was too big in my f/6.5 refractor. If you plan on using it in big fast dobs, you must have Huge eyes!!!! Hope it works well for you.

Repainting tube rings

Tim, check your yellow pages for a place that does powder coating. I recently had the tube and dew shield for my 5" refractor stripped and powder coated black for 40.00. Since these are very small parts as far as powder coaters are concerned, they can throw them in with another job of the same color and give you a price break. Black and white are very popular colors so it should not take more than a few days to get done.

I just wanted to post my recent solution to remote power. I bought a 26 amp hr gel cell and installed it in an old "6-pack cooler". A 4 outlet plug unit and a inline switch were added to make a nice portable unit. I use a 1 amp wall wart to recharge which will also fit inside the case.

Hey Jim, don't sell yourself short! That's a great image, no matter what instrument/equipment you used.
I like it because, when you look at it, you are probably seeing what someone out there sees when they look at "us", ie, our Milky Way galaxy!

Great shot Jim. I was observing last evening about the same time (1 hr earlier) and the view was incredible. The two moon pairs were neat and to me it looked like the GRS was about to eat little red. You pic shows that they are in fact a little further apart.
I wonder what will happen when they do get close. Can anyone say "Cat fight!" smile

If astrophotography is an important aspect the choice is either a Canon Rebel XT (350D) or a Nikon D50, These two seem to be the only real players in the game in the unmodded category. Other versions of the Canons, ie, 20D, are better modded or unmodded, but more expensive.
