I get it that the following is hopelessly naive, but how about a deal between the moderate majority of Rs and the moderate majority of Ds where a conservative D (Henry Cuellar?) or liberal/moderate R is nominated and approved as speaker by a bipartisan majority?   

1. Beats the heck out a futile vote on "MAGA Mike."  
2. Beats the heck out of MAGA Mike winning the speakership and locking the government down much as Rod predicts.
3. It would be a splendid FU to Gaetz and the MAGA morons who caused this problem.
4. I think the public would love it.

It will never happen because the Ds would rather make apt "clown car" jokes and generally mock the Rs than they would like to govern.  Who can blame them.   It will also never happen because Gaetz and his ilk have the votes to block a moderate speaker without D participation.

So the political parties in the "peoples house" once again screw the people.  Jim

10 voted against a House resolution supporting Israel in their war against the murdering terrorists of Hamas.  Six cowards voted "present."  I hope these congressmen and women get primaried and/or lose in the general election.

According to CNN:

The final tally was 412 to 10.

Nine Democrats voted against the resolution:

Rep. Rashida Tlaib
Rep. Cori Bush
Rep. Jamaal Bowman
Rep. Andre Carson
Rep. Al Green
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Rep. Summer Lee

Six other Democrats voted present:

Rep. Thomas Massie was the sole Republican who voted against the measure.

Like the rest of the United States I had never heard of Mike Johnson before yesterday.  It seems the "MAGA Mike" nickname is justified.  But, while I was reading for optimistic signs, it also seems generally accepted that Johnson is a nice guy, easy to work with, and someone whom a lot of people think can build consensus to get things done.   As opposed to MAGA Jim Jordan, for example, who allegedly can only operate in block and destroy mode.

Here's to hoping that is true.   There is a lot Congress needs to accomplish in the next several weeks.  Jim

Look, everyone on this forum abhors Hamas' horrific criminal murderous acts as much or probably more than you do.  Rod has relatives in Israel!  Let's get our unanimous support for Israel on the table up front.  Next, no one on this forum agrees with the campus left wingers who spout antisemitic rhetoric.   

Even so, I value the Constitution and I want protection for free speech.   Your probably intentional misquote of the students reflects your totalitarian impulses.  It sure looks like you are manipulating protected political speech into an unprotected call for violence.  At best you are a fool who is blindly repeating the totalitarian who is grossly misquoting these UCLA students.  That too is appalling.

A true constitutionalist might hate the students' message, as I do, but fight endlessly to protect their right to express themselves.   You are no Constitutionalist.

All of the news agencies who ran this story without investigation brought shame upon themselves.  This is a several days old story, why post it now?

The part I bolded in red is the answer of course.  This is your "excuse" for lying about the UCLA students in the previous thread.   I knew you would not own up to an honest, if careless mistake.  Everyone knew that.   But I am surprised at this twist of "I reposted a lie because that is what the press does...."   Then you claim that this was your intent all along: "adopt their playbook...".   How laughable.   No sane person believes your excuse now; no sane person thinks the reason you had such a grievous error in your previous post is that you are adopting the other side's playbook.   That's laughable.  No, you reprinted a lie without critical thought because it suits your worldview.   Now you are compounding it with a lie about your motivation.   

The press has credibility of about 30% or so.   Yours is zero.
