Multi-night exposures...Posted By Brian Maynard |
I think the easiest way to keep the camera oriented correctly is to simply not remove it from the scope. If you have to set up every night, a strip of masking tap with a mark place on both the camera and scope and then lined up each night will work also. As far as framing the object the same way each night is a bit more challenging. Usually there is a bright star or some other identifiable object in the image to help frame it and in most software if you move your cursor over the image it will display somewhere, usually in the bottom right corner, a coordinance. So if you put your cursor on a bright star and note the pixel coordinance you can frame your image for the next night with a good deal of accuracy. You can also just "blink compare" the two images and adjust accordingly. Also if your images aren't perfectly aligned thats ok. The stacking software will adjust but do try to get close so as not to make your image smaller from the misalignment.
