Capturing planet moons??

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience capturing planetary moons, like Deimos and Phobos? If so, what sort of suggestions can you give....by that I mean, what works better, many short exposures (like 200 one second exposures) or fewer long exposures (10 one minute exposures). How about gain, brightness, etc? With the new system and a camera capable of long exposures it would be fun to try.

Paul

Thanks again!

Hi all,

I'd have to say that seeing was pretty decent for my location for August for this image.

Plato

Well, the great lunar images lately have inspired me to try the moon with the Mewlon. Here is Plato shot at F/30. Seeing was decent, but not as good as it will get in a few months. I used a 610nm red filter with the Toucam.

Mars August 25, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is an image of Mars shot on August 25, 2005. The colour image was shot with the Lumenera Camera with good results finally! The RGB images shot with the Toucam in B&W mode. The filters leak too much IR light, and I have other filters that I will be using next weekend that have IR block already built in.

Some assorted lunar images.

Hi all,

Here are a few lunar images I shot on the morning of August 25, 2005 with the Mewlon. They were shot at F/30. Pardon the lack of orientation and labeling. I think you can recognize the features and I just want to enjoy the beauty of the moon.

Hi all,

Mars shot in not great conditions and the Mewlon was not in thermal equilibrium....I know how to take care of the second problem.
