Yeah life is one thing and technologically advanced life is another. One thing that is certain life evolves to deal with stress and changes in environment. I would wonder if there are not a lot of worlds where life might not have had to evolve to our state. I mean, if there was plenty to eat and drink and not much stress, why should it radically change? Even today we have creatures that have remained basically unchanged for a VERY long time, alligators, crocodiles and turtles for instance, but there are many more.
Also, we seem to think that all creatures that evolve will also become technological societies, I would think this is not necessarily true. Just because there do not appear to be many worlds where radio and other means of communication are present, does not indicate that beings even similar to us could not exist on these planets. If they just remained hunter gatherers or even agricultural societies, they might not ever discover radio.
I write Sci-Fi books all the time. Sometimes this makes me consider all the possibilities as I ponder the next book.
