This is dumb logic, even for you Rich.  You'll note that the Second Amendment to the Constitution does not protect rifles by name.

Not a problem, because as I've always stated, the hypocrisy, and the double standards for leftists and liberals knows no bounds here or anywhere.   smile

I'm glad you just confirmed it, so that I could point it out and get it on the record.

I do my best to show off the fraudulency of pretty much every leftist, every liberal, and every RINO on this forum, because from You, to Jim Brown, to Russ Carroll, to James Lacey, not one of you has the balls to call out one of your own.

Good to see that not one of you disappointed then and now.   grin
Richard - honest question - does "call out" mean "disagree with" or does "call out" mean something more like "gratuitous name calling"?   I am legitimately confused.   FWIW I pretty much direct my gratuitous name calling to you alone, and it is a pretty rare event at that.  I'll admit to being snarky sometimes, as shown in my previous post.

On the other hand, I disagree with all of you now and then, some more than others, and I do call you out when we disagree.  I can cite hundreds of examples.  The honest and typically collegial disagreements are the best thing about this board.   Always have been.   Rod and I have been disagreeing here for twenty years!  No kidding. I  Don't think we have ever name-called in all that time.   Jim

Predictions for November

I will go first.

Assuming nothing major happens (eg Trump or Biden having a major health event) I give the Republicans and 80/20 chance of taking the senate and the Democrats a 65/35 chance of taking the House.

The senate map is a disaster for the Democrats. They are defending several marginal seats while for the Republicans there is very little chance for any of their seats being lost.

For the house, it is so finely balanced that anything could happen. It will depend on turnout and which party has been most effective is gerrymandering the districts. (Why is that allowed???)

For the Presidency, I give Biden a 70/30 chance of being re-elected. The unknowns here are voter enthusiasm. How motivated are Trump's supporters, how many moderate Republicans will be willing to vote for Trump when there is no alternative but Biden, how motivated are the Democrat voters, and how effective are the Democrats are making abortion a major issue. Of course, the state of the economy will also be a major factor. Finally, how effective will Trump be in delaying his trials.

What do you think?

Maurice
Hi Maurice - good question.  I thought about this for a day or two.  Trump won 50% in Iowa and New Hampshire.   This means a lot of conservative middle-America Republicans in Iowa want someone else.  Although, if Desantis had been out of the race at the time, I suppose that Trump would win 75% of Iowa.  NH demonstrates that Trump is not popular with coastal independents.   So, I think Biden wins the general election comfortably.   Trump's supporters are rabidly in favor of him, and nothing can change their minds.  There is just not enough of them in the swing states for Trump to win.

I think the Rs can hold the House as a reaction to Biden's unpopularity.   It will be extremely close.  This assumes that there are not too many MAGA candidates in key races.   The MAGA candidates have lost biggly in the last two elections.  I agree that the Rs take the Senate, because of the map.

One thing I hope for is that Biden bows out and is replaced with an inspirational, younger, and more competent D candidate.  In that case, the Ds may take the House back if an inspiring candidate gets the youth and minority vote out.   Biden is failing to motivate anyone.   Of course I hope most of all that Super Tuesday goes Haley's way, but that is admittedly looking pretty far fetched.   I have enjoyed Trump's tantrum though, since she has refused to bail out.  I hope she sticks in for a while, just to watch the spectacle.    Jim

Economic optimism is coming back though - and that will be everything Biden needs.

LOL! No matter how the leftist media attempts to twist the polling, it appears that at the moment, Trump is leading Biden by 6 percentage points.

Then again they cater to the puniest of intellects and so they do achieve some success with the dumbest human beings in the nation, but I am guessing that this time around even when they try their best to steal the vote, Trump will win it.
Richard - here is a question for you:  Do you think Rod, Jim M., Brian, James, and other forum Democrats are any combination of (a) psychotic, (b) lunatics, (c) of puny intellect, and/or (d) some of the dumbest human beings in the nation?

I doubt you'll answer, you never do - but clearly the answer is "none of the above."  Why is it then that you demonize the general class of people who disagree with you on politics, even if (I assume) you do not feel that way about the local representatives of the class?

Unfortunately, you are just one example.  It is normal now to not only attack the candidates, but to attack their supporters.  It is undeniable that the press and Democratic pundits are now demonizing Trump's base.  As if all of the Trump voters in Iowa, NH, and elsewhere are morons who favor a dictatorship over our constitutional democracy.

This is a real problem within our nation.  I think the nation would be much better off if Democrats who engage in political dialog tired to understand what actually motivates Trump/MAGA voters (it is not racism and greed) and identically, if the Republicans tried to understand what motivates Biden's most loyal base (it is not stupidity).   We've touched on these topics before.  I know social media bubbles reinforced by a completely balkanized press magnify the problem.   But no one is forced into a bubble, the rampant tribalism tainting modern political discourse starts with individuals.  Jim

Any thoughts on who could be running for 2028 in either party? Could be an "intersting" time.

Maurice
My guess is (D) Gavin Newsome v. (R) To be determined.   The MAGA base is not going to forgive Nikki Haley for standing up to Trump, so I doubt she would have much luck in 2024, even though she would presently be my first choice.   Jim

Let me correct your statement so that it is accurate.

In Iowa, Trump gained 51% of the vote, while DeSantis gathered 21% of the vote, and Nikki Haley finished dead last of the 3 with 19% of the vote.

DeSantis, whom is a very good candidate finished 2nd and realized that he had no path, bowed out.

Nikki Haley is the hanger on, and bizarrely acted as if she had beaten DeSantis, claiming before DeSantis bowed out, that it was now a 2 person race between her and Trump.

She seems to be totally delusional.

Now then, as for NH, she was stomped by Trump.  You claimed without addressing or pointing out the fact that 70% of Nikki Haley's vote came from Democrats and Independents, since NH let them change parties temporarily and vote in the Repub. primary.

So then, since Trump beat Haley in NH, taking all votes in (Dems and Indeps), he still beat her by 11% points, which isn't 50% as you claimed.

Now let's extrapolate the numbers and I'll educate you here.  30% of Haley's votes came from Repubs.   0.3 X 44% is 13.2% and I'll even round up to give her some help.

So then, with respect to actual Republican votes she grabbed FAR less votes than Trump got, because he received the vast, vast majority of votes coming from Registered Repubs in NH.

He rec'd then about 75% of the REPUBLICAN vote to her 25% of the REPUBLICAN vote.

Therefore, she got most of her votes from Dems and independents.

Now then, being that this is the ploy that confuses people like yourself, I'll explain that as well so that you are not further confused, Ok?

Put on your listening ears.  smile

The Democrats who voted for Haley the other day, are going to vote for Biden.  This is a certainty, since Trump is the presumed frontrunner and the nominee.  It is just going through the motions now.

They only voted for Haley, in order to try to Hurt Trump. One of the major News outlets put forth video that evening, speaking to Democrats who voted for Haley, saying they will not vote for Haley in the General election, but will vote for Biden.

Therefore a very significant number of her votes were actually just fraudulent and they were meaningless.

If there were some sort of miracle that Haley grabbed the Repub. nomination, the leftist media would immediately turn on her and attack her mercilessly, just the same way they loved Romney and McCain Before they cemented their frontrunner status and then attacked both of those guys mercilessly.

But of course, they are fooling you I see.  smile
You gotta learn to read my friend.  I mentioned that Trump would probably have gotten 75% of Iowa if DeSantis had dropped out earlier.  I also mentioned that Trump did not do so well with coastal independents.   Those parts of my post maybe took a bit of thought to put two and two together?  In any case you went on a very long rant to agree with my math and assessment.   Nice job.

Do you appreciate now, after you have cooled off a bit, that we agree the NH and Iowa Haley voters are Democrats, independents, and Never Trump Republicans like me?  We agree of course that Trump is almost certainly the nominee.  I said so directly.   Indeed, we appear to agree that the Democrats, independents, and Rs like me who voted for Haley the other day are going to vote for Biden.   You said this outright and I agree.   This is precisely why I think Trump is doing poorly for a semi-incumbent.  He might get 75% of the registered R vote and I think he will get very little of the rest.  This circumstance reflects negatively on his chances in the general. I think this is a result of his base loving him, and everyone else hating him.

Nice rant though.

Great point!  I understand Haley is buying a ton of ads in SC.  I am not optimistic, but I certainly have no problem waiting until Super Tuesday before a candidate like Haley considers dropping out.   I don't think Biden is calling for Phillips to drop out....   I wonder why...? (snark at Richard and Trump intentional)   Maybe Trump's people are not as confident as the NYT and CNN that Haley has no path.   (Again, snark intentional.)
