I can see why Darian says he's looking forward to November. Davis, too...
Hi Rod:   Once again the Hill lets you down.   The bloodbath comment needs context to understand it is not a call to arms and mayhem and is instead a prediction of the state of the auto industry if Biden wins.   Believe Trump or not, agree with him or not, several media outlets have serious disinformation blood on their hands this time.

Will SCOTUS Bail Out Navarro?

IF Clarence hears it, I think he'll have a chance of a last minute reprieve. We'll just have to wait and see... tick, tick, tick...
Seriously Rod, this fetish with Thomas is weird.   You should read your link again, the story has been updated.

I would have guessed that none of them would grant a reprieve in this sort of case.

Hi James:

In this case I disagree.  If dozens of press outlets had not run dishonest (in my opinion) "Bloodbath" headlines the MAGA faithful would never have heard of this incident.   "Trump warns of bloodbath in US auto industry because of Chinese e-vehicle plants" is hardly an inflammatory headline.  Although my take is too ling to be a modern headline, it is a lot closer to a reasonable take in this instance.   Please don't think I am giving Trump a pass in general.   I am pointing out an instance where the press stepped in it by caving to their anti-Trump impulses reflexively.   This is not a good idea in my opinion for many reasons.

Nice alliteration, but in this case Trump is throwing red meat to the auto workers and their unions.  He probably has a point, obscured as it is by his generally hateful rhetoric.   Look for Biden to coopt this topic (the risk of Chinese EV plants in Mexico) as soon as deemed expedient.

I reckon the fact that Trump has a potentially legit point for once is why the press jumped to a dishonest (in my opinion) take on his slightly ambiguous language.   If Trump wins some of the auto workers, Biden's path narrows.

Hi Dave:  I agree with both your two previous posts, and especially the first one.   There is plenty of hateful anti-immigrant rhetoric in the speech.  Why didn't the headline writers focus on that, rather than the "bloodbath" phrase taken out of context?  I'd guess a combination of political bias and laziness.

In reading the entire speech, though,  I did notice a strong and consistent theme of racially demonizing immigrants - they'll bring murder and mayhem, an immigrant killed this beautiful white woman etc. .   He continually mentions where they are coming from with unmistakeable hints that they are brown and black.  This was the content of the vast majority of the speech.

The hard part about reading his speech is the scattershot, stream of consciousness way he jumps topics, doesn't finish sentences or thoughts.  The description 'word salad' is apt.

Dave
I agree with every word of this post.

Rod, the Navarro case is a nit.   The two First Amendment Cases heard yesterday are a big deal.  I think in the more important  Murthy v. Missouri matter the Court will merely confirm that existing First Amendment law applies to social media.   In other words the government can exert pressure on the platform owners to censor only when there is a compelling state interest.  Then I think that the Court will conclude that the government overreached way too much in the Covid years.  I think the vote(s) in both cases will be 7-2 or 6-3 with Brown-Jackson and maybe Sotomayor in the minority.  Kagan has shown real free speech chops in the past IIRC, and will side with the conservative justices.

Any opinion on this?

I'm unfamiliar with this one.   I'll do some reading and get back, but it might be tomorrow.   I think the prosecution and defense always submit proposed jury instructions before a trial, so based on the headlines alone, I don't know what the issue is.
