Perhaps you've never watched interviews of Trump voters at a Trump rally.

That said, I agree with today's opinion column on CNN with Mark Zandi, the chief economics whizz at Moody's economics:

"The outcome of the presidential election isn’t likely to hinge on abortion, immigration or even climate change. It is likely to depend, instead, on the price of gasoline in the leadup to the vote."

"Based on my econometric analysis of past presidential election outcomes looking at the state electoral college vote, which accounts for a wide range of political and economic factors, if gasoline falls toward $3 a gallon by election day, President Joe Biden should win re-election. However, if pump prices rise to more than $4, former President Donald Trump is more likely to prevail"

I know that rally attending folks are hard core Trump supporters and I am pretty confident that the press seeks out the craziest and loudest for their interviews.  Not surprising that this tiny fringe sample comes across as stupid or unhinged.   You make a mistake extrapolating from a crazed Maga gal or guy to the 1/2 of the population who might vote for Trump.  Do you disagree?

Politicians of both the left and the right pay a political price all the time for things they do not directly control.   Gas prices are one example.   The pandemic was another.

I'm going to pivot here - and remind everyone that I think the United States will be just fine no matter who is elected.   I certainly think the partisans who cast this election as the choice between glorious democracy and totalitarianism (partisans on either side) are full of it.   I am not going to vote for Trump, I think he lacks the basic skills and integrity to be a national leader.   I am prepared for his election though, because I think the Ds are committing election malpractice in many ways.   I won't like the second Trump term, but I am confident the USA will emerge intact.

I'm miffed we have the same choice as last time with both of the geezers four years older.
I am pretty sure that the Republicans in Congress and other DC power brokers would rather have Trump, whom they think they can control or leverage to implement a conservative agenda, rather than Biden.   So why would they speak out against Trump?  With Biden it is even more clear that the liberal side of the DC establishment has a useful tool to do the will of the party.  Otherwise, how could they back up such a lack-luster candidate with close to the highest dis-approval ratings of all time?

This is one reason I think we'll be fine if Trump or Biden wins again, even though I think neither is qualified to be president in 2024.  The guardrails of our system are quite robust.

I suppose, but my nature is to give people the benefit of the doubt and also to try to see the best in people.   I am an optimist.   Back in 2016, I thought Trump would settle down and take the job seriously if elected.   I was wrong.  Also, I really did not think Ms. Clinton, whom I believe to be approximately as corrupt as Trump, deserved my vote.   She proved me right by spearheading the Russian Collusion Hoax before and after the election.  She and Trump are two peas in a pod.

“The bribe is implied“. What does that even mean? It certainly sounds slanderous, unfounded, and ridiculous. I am shocked that you would endorse this sort of nonsense.

It sounds more and more like you would dispense with due process of any sort and simply proceeded to conviction and sentencing since the defendant is Donald Trump. Seriously, why do you have a problem with the judge being careful and deliberate in a high stakes criminal trial?

I guess I have to restate what I've previously and linked to but I've found it nicely summarized:

"To say that Cannon finds herself in an entirely avoidable situation is an understatement. The primary speed bump preventing a swift speedy resolution of the issues she cites in explaining her delay is none other than Cannon herself. It’s impossible at this juncture to definitively apportion the blame for this cascading failure on inexperience, partisan malice and simply being dealt a bum hand. What is clear though is that Cannon has made what should have been one of the most straightforward cases against Trump into a quagmire of her own creation."

"Cannon’s office has struggled with the heavy workload, higher than normal turnover in her chambers, the required clearances her clerks need to handle classified material, and a new propensity for micromanaging given the increased scrutiny on her after the special master ruling."

"That includes her frankly bizarre decision to have the prosecution and defense spend time on crafting potential jury instructions and arguments regarding the Presidential Records Act rather than deal with the more pressing issues on her plate."

"Again, the evidentiary role of classified material would likely slow down any criminal trial, let alone one involving a former president. But given the clear evidence that Trump was in possession of the documents seized despite a subpoena to return them and attempted to foil the government’s efforts to recover them, this should be an open and shut case once it gets before a jury. Instead, Cannon has only painted herself into a corner, overcorrecting from her past mistakes in a way that has only exacerbated her subsequent follies."

“msnbc.com/opinion”.   I guess that explains it. You really do need to broaden your information circle!   These are the same clowns who, based on your previous post, are accusing a federal judge of accepting bribes with no basis whatsoever!! It is a shame the judge cannot give MSNBC the Hulk Hogan treatment.

What do you think of MSNBC’s lame-o attempt to resurrect Russian interference as a defining issue of this election?  Maybe MSNBC wants a repeat of 2016?

Nikki Haley just the other day decided to say "I'm voting for Donald Trump" She shows that she put the good of the nation over her own ego and her anger

This RINO considers himself a Haley supporter, and I can easily forgive her.   I hope she gets the VP nod, although that seems unlikely.

I have recently been thinking about the Republicans in Congress and other high offices who probably agree with me about Trump's character and fitness for office.  These folks have a choice between quitting politics or working with Trump at some level.  I do not fault them for working with him.  For starters, I am sure that most recognize the limits on presidential autonomy, and reasonably know they can accomplish more of their agendas with Trump rather than without him.  And, as you note, any R candidate in the future will need the support of the 1/3 of all voters who strongly or somewhat support Trump.

I also think that the Democrats in Congress and other high offices have made the same calculus with respect to President Biden and former candidate Clinton.  Jim

I see your point, but I think there is a type of integrity at play here.

I am assuming that Haley is in part motivated by a genuine desire to perform public service.   She is swallowing a huge crap sandwich to remain politically relevant - as you note.   It takes courage and integrity to publicly humiliate herself in this way.

Bottom line, I think her motivations are at least in part noble.   <edited> My guess is that Rod will no doubt think her motivations are base and selfish.  Obviously we can not know what Ms. Haley thinks and feels at the deepest levels.   But in my view at least, she is taking a huge ego hit to further her desire to perform public service.

I should have said that "my guess" is that Rod..."  Sorry for putting words in his mouth.   I'll edit the original.
