CBS National News with Nora O'Donnell and the cast that is with her onstage are absolutely gray looking, as if they want to vomit

The CNN panel from left to right agrees with you.  Biden looked entirely like the moment and the job has passed him by.  He confirmed everyone's worst fears.  The second 30 minutes was better for Biden, but his closing argument was horrific.  One of the commentators blamed Biden's family and closest advisors for putting him in this situation, since it was obviously beyond him, especially since the Ds trumpeted the week in Camp David preparing.  The CNN chyron  is all about "high level" D panic.

Trump was no great shakes and seemed to make his comments up, often with complete obvious lies, as he went along.  Otherwise he just evaded the question. At least he was coherent in his lies and evasions though... These are our choices?  Maybe, in a moment of profound cynicism, I can hope that the man in the oval office is unimportant, and that the system will chug along whether the president is competent, or worthy, or not.   Alas, even I can not really embrace that level of cynicism.

Anderson Cooper is arguing with Kamala Harris right now.  She refuses to admit that Biden is diminished.  Cooper is incredulous.

Is there any chance that Biden will step aside and the Ds can produce a better candidate?  I am afraid that this performance, watched by so many, is something the Ds can not recover from.  And I still, even after this shit show, really do not want Trump back in the Oval Office.

What was shocking was that the guy on CBS on National TV in front of Nora O'Donnell actually reported that a number of Democrats headed over to the WH to ask them to have Joe Biden step down.

That is historic. Not since Repubs headed over to Pennsylvania Ave for Nixon has that happened.

Compared to Trump who was energetic and non-combative Biden looked like what he is, a geriatric patient.

I'm starting to think this is all strategic and planned for the Dems who have been propping up Biden.  They are ready to throw him under the Bus.

He has worn out his usefulness for the Dems.

I won't even say another word, as it isn't necessary.  LOL
Since Biden is in Atlanta, and the shock of his performance might diminish over time, I doubt that is literally true... at least as of tonight.   But I don't doubt that many high level Ds are indeed going to pass that message to Biden in the next few weeks.  I wonder if he'll listen?  I hope he does.

Biden was as bad as could be. Now of course they are making up excuses for him. Even the leftist media was saying that he was bad

Tonight cemented the win for Donald Trump.  So sad for the leftist, socialist, communist Democrats out there.  smile
I am afraid you may be right, Trump had a strong EC lead before tonight.  This is sad for all of us who value integrity, honesty, and competence.  Unlike many, I do not believe Trump will usher in a dictatorship, destroy democracy, and so on.  The Constitution is bigger and stronger than one scoundrel.  Congress and the Supreme Court are in my opinion up to the task of curbing Trump's worst impulses.  That said, this is a sad day for all citizens of good will if it cements a Trump victory.

For the record, I think the moderators did a good well-balanced job and served CNN well.  I like the format of turning off the microphone since the candidates rarely tried to talk over each other.

I retrospect, this more civilized "turn the mike off" format served Trump the best, since he prepared for it, left the bully/asshole persona at home and otherwise curbed his worst impulses, except for his impulse to lie.

Thankfully that is true because Joe Biden is probably the most corrupt and third world type scoundrel that has ever sat in that office.

No one has ever weaponized his DOJ the way Joe Biden has.

You then stated:   This is sad for all of us who value integrity, honesty, and competence.

Since you claim that you value the above, it is too bad that you neither exhibit, nor possess any of those traits that you value.   wink

Lastly you stated:

I think you misspoke and put the name Trump in the above sentence when you mean Biden, correct?

After all, I don't recall Trump thumbing his nose at the Supreme Court or the Congress, the way Biden and his administration has.

I don't recall Trump ignoring a Supreme Court ruling like dictator Biden has as he's ignored the ruling that SCOTUS gave where they told Biden he had ZERO power to forgive the debts of the College Students, placing it on the Backs of Taxpayers, and yet he did and continues to do so.

Biden has certainly violated his oath under the Constitution whereby he left the border open, failing in his oath to defend the Constitution against all threats foreign and domestic.

Yes that is Biden not Trump.

How many terrorists has Biden let into this nation?  Dozens and dozens?   More like hundreds if not thousands.

And you have the gall to claim that Trump needed to be reigned in?  Is this another instance in which you cannot support your horseshit assertions about Trump?

Yeah, I guess it is.    smile
I get it that you hate Biden, and I acknowledge his flaws, but are you seriously staking out the position that Trump embodies; "integrity, honesty, and competence"?

Biden does need to step aside now and a moderate Democrat needs to fill the void. My recommendation:

https://www.moderatedemocrats.org/candidate/tester/

As far as Trump's performance goes, he LIED on virtually EVERYTHING he had to say but he said it better than Biden said the truth...
Regarding the part I bolded, a possibly minor philosophical point - does Trump actively lie, knowing that he is spouting falsehoods, or is he just so arrogant that he makes up whatever facts he wants as he goes, without any knowledge of whether or not what he spouts is true, or even reflects reality?

Maybe this is a distinction without any difference, but I think it is the later, which is worse in my opinion.   I think Trump is a narcissistic egomaniac, who feels totally entitled to make up his own reality as he goes, and then believes it, which is arguably more dangerous than a run-of-the mill liar who knows he is lying.  Some of Trump's lies are gruesome, but easy to see through.  For example his lie that Ds favor the option of "aborting" live-born babies.  Other lies are more troubling because some voters might actually believe them - for example that he'll resolve the Russian invasion of Ukraine between November and January, or that Putin would not have invaded if Trump had been president...

I don't know much about Tester, he seems intriguing.  To win in Montana means he must have some strong centrist chops, which would be my kind of candidate.

I watched CNN to the bitter end a few moments ago.  As much as I have accused them of bias in the past, I'll say there is no outlet that does this sort of event nearly as well as CNN.  The big panel is well balanced, they have legit political experts of all stripes and Cooper does a great job of moderating.

He is the biggest traitor to this nation since Alger Hiss.  The guy would sell his sister for a buck, and Joe Biden has never had an ounce of integrity in his life.

Donald Trump was a business man who operated the same as every other high stakes businessman operates in this country and the world.

Your naivety is on a par with nobody on the planet.

When Judge Judy comes out and defends Trump and says Alvin Bragg and NY had NO case whatever and just fabricated up charges against the man, and she's a NY Jewish Ultra Liberal, and yet has the integrity to call out the charade, while a complete clown like yourself doesn't have the backbone, HONESTY, nor the INTEGRITY to call out the system of corruption, then the fact that you even have the temerity to even bring up the idea of whether or not Trump has integrity or honesty, is laughable on its face.

You wouldn't know honesty if it came up and bit you on the ass!

And you obviously don't have an ounce of integrity as you sat back for the last several years and gave us all your load of bullshit that Biden was doing a good job.

You're a liberal joke pal.   smile
To the rest of the forum; shame on me for even trying to have a civil conversation with Richard. I got lost in the moment.

All true.  What we watched last night from Trump and what we have to read here in just about every thread is so eerily similar.  To that extent, I reckon Richard is granting us an unintentional public service.  I do not know anyone else, either on line, or in person, who behaves exactly like Trump does, so our interactions here are instructive.

Back to the debate, it seemed pretty clear to me, and of course a whole lot of national pundits on the moderate right to extreme left agree, that the best course is for Biden to be talked out of running.   I agree 100% with the Peggy Noonan take that Russ posted last night.  Nate Silver is much harsher.  The NYT, CNN, and the Washington Post by and large think last night's performance was unrecoverable.  Even MSNBC is floating the new candidate story.  What is your opinion now?

At the Supreme Court Today

Posted By James Brown

The scope of the Enron era "obstruction of official proceeding" charges leveled against many January 6 rioters (and Trump) has been narrowed.  This is a win for the President and many of the other defendants.  Interestingly for Court watchers, Trump appointed Justice Barrett joined in the dissent and Biden appointed Justice Brown Jackson joined with Chief Justice Roberts in the majority.
