Trump and his team are entirely incapable of doing what would be necessary to return us to a safe and viable economy. Without a national testing program that can provide fast results and active contact tracing, we are at the mercy of the virus, and our only choice is non-pharmaceutical interventions like school closings and shut-downs, and so forth. The wrecking ball currently being applied to our economy will continue unabated. The unfortunate thing is that current reporting is that Jared and his team had a national testing program ready to launch, but the WH squashed it since early on the pandemic was affecting only blue states. The thinking was that they would be able to blame Democratic Governors for an inadequate response and use it to political advantage. If this turns out to be accurate, and we have no reason to doubt it is not, there will be a huge backlash. It is unconscionable that almost six months into this crisis, we still do not have adequate testing and contact tracing.

Last quarter GDP fell by over 30%, the worst on record. Unemployment benefits and pandemic relief are expiring. Soon, people will be getting evicted. Unemployment is already at historical highs and will probably get worse. If Trump does get his way and schools reopen, there will be hell to pay. When parents find out the only reason their kids have not been getting sick is that they have been home, and they start infecting their families, there will be a huge outcry. One summer-camp the CDC has been studying ended up with 50% of the campers testing positive for COVID in a matter of weeks. There is evidence kids can carry much higher viral loads than adults and be asymptomatic. Some private schools that tried to reopen have already had to shut back down.

The simple question is, out of all this chaos that anyone with even a bit of imagination can see coming, and that will lie at Trump's feet, which part of it do you honestly believe is going to help Trump's reelection chances?
The equally unfortunate reality here is that Trumptoids only see and hear what they do from Fox news, Rush Limbaugh and the Sinclair group of channels. The right wing shtick is relentless, 24/7, pro-Trump propaganda. So, while the harsh realities described above will be incurred by many throughout the country, Trumptoids will not change their minds and will continue to believe in whatever he peddles, no matter how unsubstantiated and outrageous it may be, such as believing the election has  been rigged,  unless, of course, he emerges as the victor...

We can be sure there will continue to be no real vision of national interest in this pandemic coming from this White House. Instead, we will only get small and selfish acts; in other words, if it doesn't benefit Trump personally or politically, then he is not interested.
All true, of course,  and I would add that Trump is earnestly developing a strategic action plan aimed at defunding the postal service in cooperation with the postmaster general who was previously a Trump campaign official. The goal is to delay and or prevent the timely delivery of mail in ballots thus depriving millions of a legitimate venue of voting...

From my previous post to Darian on masks:
"Wearing a mask is primarily for preventing someone else from getting an infection from you and NOT from preventing you from getting it from someone else. The only possible exception is a bonafide N95 or certified equivalent..."
And in my  follow up response to Darian:""Masks won’t offer any protection for the person wearing one"
"This is a more complicated one, rooted in truth. The rationale for wearing a mask in the midst of the pandemic is that it will act as a barrier to prevent respiratory droplets from the mouth and nose from dispersing and transmitting the virus to others. That’s considered to be the main way the virus spreads."

Some information about Moderna etc.

Posted By Rod Kaufman

There are multiple vaccine candidates:
"he US government is choosing three vaccine candidates to fund for Phase 3 trials under Operation Warp Speed: Moderna’s mRNA-1273 in July, The University of Oxford and AstraZeneca’s AZD1222 in August, and Pfizer and BioNTech's BNT162 in September. Members of ACTIV have suggested developing safe controlled human infection models (CHIMs) for human trials could take 1-2 years. A sponsor would need to provide data from placebo-controlled trials indicating their vaccine is at least 50% effective against COVID-19 in order to be authorized for use, according to FDA guidance issued and effective 30 June."

Of course, there are other vaccines being developed in other countries, too.
Can't wait to see the conspiracy theories for those, too.
Our only hope to get out of this thing is a vaccine. Leave it to some Trumptoids to believe otherwise...

Of course, Rich hijacks the thread and makes it about Bill Clinton rather Axios on HBO.
So, speaking on the actual topic at hand, how do the right to lifers react to Trump's proclamation on the ever escalating death toll of Covid19 as being, in Trump's words, "it is what it is"...
