There is no government solution David don't you get it? Gun violence is a human nature problem. If a crazy middle-aged white male wants to carry out a mass murder, they will figure out a way to do it whether they have access to an efficient killing solution or not. The government can't stop that. Unless of course, he's one of those brown-skinned Muslims, then precisely the only sensible thing to do is have the government ban travel from predominantly Muslim countries and build a Southern border wall. You see it's simple really. Government intervention is only necessary when it caters to my particular biases and reinforces my predilections. Of course, if all those people at that concert in Vegas had been open-carrying assault rifles, then that would have stopped that killer a lot sooner right? It's time to loosen the gun laws and put them everywhere; schools, churches, private businesses, etc. I mean, we have the right to defend ourselves, don't we?

Seriously though, mass shootings like the event in Vegas are still incredibly rare. It's not clear what if anything could stop a determined attacker like Stephen Paddock. The majority of mass shootings (let's say 3 or more killed or injured) in the US are due to domestic violence. When I say the majority, I mean way over fifty-percent of all of them. It's at least the prominent first place to start. Expand mental health treatment, expand waiting periods, ban sales of guns and ammo to those convicted of domestic violence, ban sales of guns and ammo to mentally ill and violent criminals, and so forth. There is no fool-proof solution, but surely these are some sensible measures.

In Vegas, a white American lone wolf closeted gun nut, with no discernible motive, uses semi-automatic weapons and hundreds if not thousands of rounds of ammunition to kill almost 60 people and injure hundreds more. The response from Trump is familiar platitudes at best, and conservative gun supporters start the usual drum beats about how no amount of security or regulation would have prevented the tragedy. A tragedy by the way that is the worst mass shooting in American history.

A brown-skinned lone wolf Muslim rents a truck and kills eight people and injures dozens and Trump and his supporters immediately start using it as an opportunity to push his travel ban, that is, by the way, blocked again by federal courts.

Trump seems to be convinced that banning Muslims will somehow make us safer, when in fact, the vast majority of mass shootings and violence in the country are carried out by American citizens who almost surely identify as Christians. Of course, I'm sure some Christians will be quick to point out that Americans who carry out acts of violence are not "true" Christians, but can't we say the same for people who identify as Muslims that commit acts of violence? In fact, exactly that point is what Muslim religious leaders would say.

The simple facts are that based on numbers and raw data alone, you should be far more afraid of the lone wolf white American Christian than the lone wolf brown-skinned Muslim immigrant. Not to mention that your diet and other personal habits are probably the most dangerous thing threatening your welfare right now. Heck, your commute to and from work every day is perhaps the most significant threat to your life you face each day. Now I'm not saying that we shouldn't carry out common sense security measures, but wasting billions of dollars on a needless border wall and putting in place immigration policies that do little to address the real threats seem to me anyway to just be impetuous and xenophobic.

It seems to me that we have enough of a problem already with people or groups of people being blamed unjustly for something they didn't do. I don't see a need to encourage such behavior. How about this instead. Instead of blaming the immigrants, how about we blame the individual? Isn't this supposed to be America where the conditions of one's birth don't dictate the outcome of one's life? Isn't this country where the son does not suffer the iniquity of the father? On top of that, you don't want to isolate and ruin the trust of immigrant communities. If you do that, then getting actionable information from them will become all but impossible.

By my back of the envelope calculation, since 1990, a million people have come to the US via the diversity program. One out of that one million commits a heinous crime, and the POTUS and his supporters lose their minds and unilaterally decide that this criminal does not have any legal rights or constitutional protections and deserves summary execution on the "battlefield" of the streets of New York. On top of that, they decide all immigrants share collective blame for this individual's actions and deserve punishment at the least in the court of public opinion. How utterly ridiculous.

At this point, it's impossible to predict how much more astonishingly embarrassing this President can become.

We also now know that Peter Strozk, the FBI agent who is supposedly the leader of a "secret society" in the FBI who sought to rig the election for Hillary in 2016, supported reopening the investigation into Hillary's emails days before the election. He even wrote the first draft of the letter from former FBI Director James Comey that made the decision public!

That swooshing sound you hear is not tinnitus; instead, it's a conspiracy theory flushing down the toilet.

You have it all wrong. Try to follow along:

First, a traditionally Republican FBI, announces days before the 2016 election that they are reopening an email investigation into the Democratic nominee. This investigation only turns up duplicate emails, but the announcement still no doubt did irreparable harm to the Democratic nominee.

Second, the same traditionally Republican FBI fails to disclose that at the same time members of the Republican nominee's campaign are actively being investigated for collusion with Russians.

Lastly, a Republican (Mueller) is appointed by a Republican (Rosenstein) to investigate a Republican (Trump) firing a Republican (Comey).

Naturally, the only conclusion is that the FBI is a "secret society" that has been actively working to aid Hillary. Get it now?
