I don't have any pics handy, but mine was a 6" f/9 newt. I ground and polished the primary mirror. I hesitate to claim that I actually figured its shape... I was in high school and working by myself, doing the best I could using the ATM books I had mail ordered. In the end it did form an image, and it was fun to use.

My father helped me built a equitorial mount that was quite a beast, out of dead farm implement parts. It weighed close to 100 lbs, and I had to move it around with a hand truck.

I even built an "observatory" out of pieces from an old corn crib. Those were the days!

For the lower-power eyepiece...

Televue "Widefield" eyepieces show up on Astromart occasionally. I see a 24mm sold just last week for $115.

The 32mm version has a 33mm field stop, and the 24mm has a 24.7mm field stop, so they are not quite as wide as a Panoptic.

Perhaps not what you had in mind, but the Uti6 is claimed to be carry on legal, on the company's website (Infinity Scopes).
