Tube Currents

Gents, I am trying to collimate an Astro-Tech 6" RC for a friend and clubmember. This type has a factory fixed primary and they intend you to collimate with secondary alone which seems a bit different that your standard RC according to what I read.

Right away, I noticed pretty severe tube currents which is what I believe he is seeing rather than an out of collimation scope. These lasted for a looong time. Is this typical of this design? The scope was brought out from a 73 degree house, to a 65 degree nite and was set up at 9:45. By 11:20, it was just beginning to settle down enough to see round fresnel rings. I've had SCTs that cool faster than that. Do the baffles affect this?

SV70ED Rings

Does anybody have a suggestion for fixed/rigid 84mm rings for SV70ED something like AP, WO or parallax type? I would rather avoid the adjustable type. I have had better luck with flexure with fixed rings.

Best result I have had. Approx 3:00 UT Sept 5, 2009. 5" refractor at f30 with SPC900NC. Processed in Registax, 1000 frames +/-.

I don't think I can get any more from my scope in this neck of the woods. I still had no diffraction rings with a star test last night just some arcs, so perhaps a pickering 6? Doubles, my usual fair were pretty good last night although I was fighting sucker holes.

Shot with a AP140 at f30 using 4x powermate. 1200 frames processed with registax.

Similar mediocre seeing I normally get, but good transparency. 140mm refractor, f30 with 4x powermate and Phillips web cam. 1150 frames, registax processing.

Jupiter GRS + Shadow Tr Sept 20 UT

Here is image of Io shadown transit and GRS from Saturday night EST. Taken with 5.5" refractor at f30, Phillips 900NC. 900 frames, Registax processed. Seeing was 6/10 which is just about as good as it gets in my neck of woods at 43 deg N.

I seem to be having trouble answering an ad or two. When I click send, it locks up my computer and I have to close IE.

Need Crosshairs

I have received a finder that has no crosshairs. Is there an easy way to make these and where do they go. I assume on the objective side of the eye lens?

Trouble with Ads

Having a peculiar problem that seems worse lately. I notice many ads that have images that open up as postage stamp sized images. It happens with IE, and Firefox on multiple computers. Is this an occasional astromart bug or do folks actually think they have to put these tiny images in an ad and don't realize that astromart puts a sized a thumbnail link automatically.
