Tube cutting

I have a dob that I would like to convert to a split-tube. The optical tube is made of sonotube, and I would like to get a nice smooth cut. What would be the best way to do this? Razor blade, a sharp razor knife, dremel, bandsaw, something else? Could someone lend some advice? I would appreciate any advice possible.

Focuser question

I'm looking to replace the set screws in my focusers with some nylon thumbscrews so that I don't get set screw marks on my eyepieces anymore. I've found where to get them, but they have a lot of different sizes. So, I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me what size(s) they are. I presently have 2 scopes. One is a Hardin 8" dob, and the other has a JMI Crayford. I would like to replace the set screw that holds the eyepiece, and the one(s) that hold the 2" to 1.25" adapter.

I've been reading a lot of great threads here about how we got where we are. I'm talking mainly about the Iraq war, gas prices and national security. I'd love to hear some opinions about what needs to take place to dig ourselves out of this mess. Any opinions?

Robert, have you considered a 6 inch reflector on the unistar? It should probably handle the long tube 6 incher from Orion, and it should save you the money you're looking for. Or maybe find a shorter tube 6 inch OTA on Astromart. That would give you your added aperture, and portability as well, plus save you a lot of money. They usually can be found at a bargain. Just a thought.

Thanks for your replies Jim and Bernie. I guess it will work fine like this. It just looks a little funny off to one side like that. I'll give it a try like this, and maybe keep my eyes open for a way to do it the other way.
