Four planets

Posted By Paul Maxson

I love these type of images. This is a composite comparison of the four brightest planets. The images for the composite were shot within 24 hours of each other. Details are on the image.

Sky Maps

Posted By Paul Maxson

I know this has been discussed here before, but I don't remember much about it. I think I'd like to get a sky map program. I looked at the website for TheSky and it looks nice. I'm looking specifically for a program that will give me sky positions for the planets, planetary moons, things like that. I would like some DSO info as well, and something that is accurate too.

Ideas, preferences?

Thanks!!

Jupiter and Io 03/06/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

I managed to get the Io transit last night. The fist image is not as sharp as the second. In only 15 minutes Jupiter had moved high enough for that much improvement.

BTW, I use a program called Meridian to find the eclipses, etc on Jupiter. It can be found here:

Jupiter 03/08/04

Here is an image I made of Jupiter from last night. The GRS is just coming on the face of Jupiter from the upper right side of Jupiter. Seeing wasn't great, but obviously not too bad... smile

Extending the GPS hand panel

Posted By Paul Maxson

Does anyone know what the wiring pattern is on the Hand Panel on the GPS scopes? I'd like to put a 2-3' extender cable on mine, if it can be done. I'm betting a standard phone extender cable won't work, but I could probably build one if I knew.

Thanks!!

Jupiter 03/09/04

Here is a link to the image I made of Jupiter on the evening of 3/8/04 (which, of course, is early morning for me UT). The seeing was nice as I took this image, but went downhill within minutes. The other 5 images I shot were pretty bad.

Jupiter and Saturn 03/09/04

Posted By Paul Maxson

Last night was one of the steadiest evenings I have seen in my back yard in a while (even though it was over 80 degrees)...I was only planning to shoot Jupiter, but after getting the GPS scope aligned and on Saturn, I gasped, then got the Toucam and shot Saturn. An hour later I shot Jupiter. As you can see, the results are pretty decent. **grin** That was night that I wished I had a 14" scope instead of the 8" scope.

Jupiter 03/13/04

Here is a sequence I shot of the twin Satellite event from last night (03/13/04) on Jupiter. Seeing got better towards the end, then the clouds kept me from seeing Io's shadow on the disk. Ah well...try another time!!!
