1. The CM uses celestrons CI-700 Mount - not the losmandy.
2. The CGE-11 is basically a reworked CI-700 with GOTO - it's known as the CGE mount.
3. The old C-11 that came with the Celestron version of the G-ll mount is the CG-11.

There are two seperate dovetail plates - a narrow 1' wide type that fits the CG-5/4 (Great Polaris clone) mounts and the wider 3" type that fits the CGE/Losmandy G-11 mounts. Sounds like you got the CG-5 one.... Did you buy this as a unit (IE - the CGE-8) or did you buy as two seperate items - the cge mount and the c-8 OTA??? When you buy the ota seperately it only comes with the cg-5 mount plate. You either need to but the celestron plate - or even better buy the losmandy DC-8 plate - which is a better unit.

No real "manual" per se, but there was a one page "flyer" in the box as far as I can remember (been a few years since owning). I'm sure Celestron would mail, FAX, or email a pdf file (Have you checked the Celestron site BTW?) for free.
On the other hand the dealer is kind of right - it's a pretty straight forward item to use. What questions do you have??

You would want adjustible rings. I piggybacked a number of scopes on my c-8 over the years - mostly as guide scopes. I had the Bonney Lake "Millburn Rings". Cheap and outstanding build quality. Currently I've gone to a side by side (Losmandy) set-up with my Megrez.

Daniel - what Vignetting are you seeing? I had a CC for years (See Todd Gross's Site) and don't recall the vignetting - although at the time my largest eyepiece was prob around 32mm 1.25. One thing I did was put on the low profile camera adapter, then use a 2" SCT adapter (in lieu of a T-ring) to make the focuser 2". It also lowered the back focus by about 1/2 inch.
The biggest problem was the large secondary - which makes the views a bit "soft". As a "poor mans" Schmidt Camera with both film and early CCD it did quite well.
I have alwaysed liked the Vixen sliding focuser - IMO its a design that I think more manufacurers should look in to....

I too like MegaFix/SuperFix and was a bit disapointed when it wouldn't work with XP (Long conversation with Bruce....). Anyway I started to use the Astro Freeware by Christian Buil called Iris. It's every bit as powerful as M/DL but not quite as user friendly. It's free, and he updates it like monthly - give it a shot and see what you think.

These f/4 Focal Reducers were not ment to be used with the 5" SCT's but were in fact a FR for the 500mmm Mak/Cas spotter that Celestron sold in the early/mid 90's (NOT to be confused with the C-90 tube's). These spotters were sold by everyone from B&L to Orion. With that said, one can do some interesting things with FR lenses. I have a few old ones from the 70's I've used successfully with a number of scopes as photo aids (and even a few for visual). Like most FR they do ad quite a bit of field curvature - they are not field flatteners - and are best photographically then visually.
