Not sure how notable, but Vixen displayed a lightweight goto alt-az mount with a 110 Mak.

Pinos over Thanksgiving?

Posted By Craig Smith

Thanks. Yes, we'll have to see how the weather goes, although right now the forecast looks promising. My family prefers the forest and it's the most convenient location, but the desert would probably be a better idea -- they aren't big on cold. I was hoping to go to Joshua Tree but can't; I thought Red Rock Canyon took reservations but now it says first come first served. So not sure where to go.

Meade LX200 vs LX90

Posted By Craig Smith

It depends somewhat on the vintage. This is what I can remember from 3 years ago:

The LX200 has a much heavier-duty fork mount, with about 2" more base clearance. It used larger gears, and its pointing accuracy was slightly better. I think it had a slightly higher max slew speed. It had manual slow-motion controls and a primary mirror lock. It's database was larger, for what it's worth. Its electronics had some other minor features such as periodic error correction on both axes I believe, SmartMount, and level/north sensors. It also came standard with an electric microfocuser and GPS. Some of this has since been added to the LX90. I just threw away my old product literature, but if I think of anything else I'll add it.
