Good news to read this as I have just orded a Vixen Porta mount for my Celestron 80mmED. I am just wondering how the friction clutch works? It has no lock knobs as I understand it.

I also have an 8" reflector (Cave f/4.5) and I have bought the C80ED and Vixen Porta for grab-and -go as it takes quite some time for the 8" mirror to cool down.
I use the refractor much moore often, because it`s so easy to take out and set up; Vixen Porta is steady and wonderfull to use with it`s slow-mow controlls.The C80Ed is rock-steady on it, even up near zenith!
I can use the C80Ed up to 160X easely with no breaking down of images on binaries and on Mars.

I expected the Norwegians not to adopt English words in their language, or do they say "Mjölkvägan:-)?
Well this has little connection to Astronomy, rather a language issue, but interssting I think; what do people in Africa, Asia and so on call the Milky Way?
Anybody knows??

Maybe the Vixen Porta Mount will be fine. I use it with my C80ED for grab and go with Great succes. Mind you, it has slow-mo controlls and you never need any counterweights.

Hello Dave!
I have the C80ed since 6 months.
Startest shows me very similar pictures as you see; sharp round rings inside focus, fuzzy outside, but the outermost rings are sharp and well defined on both sides.160X with WO 2" diagonal, Intes Barlow 2,4X + 9mm Antares Ortho eyp.
According to what I have red on "the net" this is normal for a scope of this design.Mind you Iam not an expert
Anyway,I do not worry too much. The "at focus" image ( and that`s what matter, isn`t it?!)is just fine.
Pinpoint stars that snap into focus at 160X (Iam sure the scope can handle a bit higher mag. with a good 3X barlow!)
1.5" binaries split or elongate depending on seeing.
I can`t ask for much more with 80mm aperture I think!?

I also have the C80ED (+Vixen Porta mount)"spotting scope". It makes observing so much fun and easy. I routinely have it up to 160X with a good Antares 9mm ortho + Intes 2,4X barlow (WO diagonal)with no imagening breakdown what-so-ever.
1,5" binaries split, Ihave also seen 2 craterlets in Plato and Saturn is stunning. Unfortuneately Jupiter does not rise high enough up here at 58^North for meaningfull observing.
With a good 7.5 eyp and the barlow Iam sure this spottingscope will handle 192X, at least.
My 8" Newton will not be used all that much I am afraid....
