NGC 3372(Eta Carina Nebula)

Hi all

Well,It's been a while since my last post (with no net connection) but now with a new faster server It makes life a touch easier.

I've got a couple of new Southern objects shots,the immense Eta Carina nebula(NGC 3372) and a wonderful Open Cluster in Centaurus NGC 3766.

NGC 3372(Eta Carina) is about 2deg in size and at a distance of about 8,000ly makes for a stunning sight at the eyepiece through any telescope.

NGC 3766 is 15'in size,a tight coloful open cluster in Centaurus at about 6,000ly and estimated to be around 20 million years old.

These were shot with a SXV-H9C through a ZS 66SD and guided with a ZS 110 on a AP600 mount.

Exposure on NGC 3372 was 4min x 30

Exposure on NGC 3766 was 4min x 19

Cluster in Carina (NGC 2516)

Hi all

NGC 2516 is a beautiful open cluster in the constillation of Carina.

Situated at about 1500ly and aproximately one degree in size It shines at a combined magnitude of 3.8 making for a great low power view.

I shot this through a ZS 66SD on a AP600E mount using the SXV-H9C.
Exposures were 40 x 2 minutes unguided and was taken at Magellan Observatory at Lake Bathurst.

This is my second attempt at this cluster and although I feel that the chip in my CCD is too small for a cluster of this size I hope I did a better job with It this time round.

Galaxies in Leo

Hi Gang !

This pair of Galaxies in Leo(M66/65) is a must do for Astrophotographers!

With there dusty lanes amongst the intricate spiral structure, to there subtle colours, and lying at a distance of 31 million LY and at about mag 10,there always a challenge.

It's interesting to note that the Leo trio was over looked by Messier who was busy observing a comet in 1773 which passed directly through the field on November the 2nd(must of been one hell of a comet!) consequently they were descovered by Mechain in March 1780.

I shot this through the ZS 110 with the SXV-H9C and guided on an AP600E mount out at Magellen Observatory 200km south of Sydney a couple of months back.

Exposures were 12 x 10 minutes and AA3 was used to capture,align&combine and CS2 for all post processing.

Cluster in Scorpius

My favourate cluster in Scopius ! and only 6200 LY away!geez...right next door don't ya think ?

Well,I dont't think you would get much of an argument If you were to make the claim that NGC 6231 is one of the most stunning open clusters in the heavens.

For those who have never viewed this cluster look It up in the top of the tail at about half a deg North of Zeta Scorpii...your in for a treat !

Again this was shot a couple of months back out at Magellan Observatory at Lake Bathurt N.S.W.(3 hours South of Sydney)

Shot through the ZS110/.8 reducer with the SXV-H9C on a AP600E mount.

Exposures were 2 minutes unguided and all pre-processing done in AA3 and post-processing with CS2.

IC 2944(The Running Chicken Neb)

Hi All

At a approximate distance of 8200ly,in the constellation of Centaurus lies a very large(1.5 deg) emission nebula designated IC 2944(The Running Chicken Neb).

This nebula extends south east from the bright star Lambda Centauri which is a foreground star and is not responsible for igniting the nebula.

The loose cluster known as Cr 249 which is populated by a number of hot O-type stars is the culprit for this southern burst of excitement.

Shot through a ZS 66SD and guided with a ZS110 on a AP600E mount using the SXV-H9C.
Exposure time was 10 minutes x 20 and preprocessing done in AA3 and post-processing in CS2.

M16(Ha)

Hi again all!

Of cause we all know The Eagle and It's been done many times but for me this is my first Ha work.
I didn't get a chance to shoot the RGB for this before the clouds came over but managed a couple of hours in Ha so,I guess here begins a new journey for me.

Exposures were 15min x 8 and shot with a SXV-H9C using a 13nm Ha filter,through the ZS 66SD and guided with the ZS110 on an AP600E mount.

M20&M21

G'day all !

Well It's that time of year again...ain't It?

Yes I know It's been done to death but I say onto you that this is my take of M20 with a guest appearance from M21.

Exposures on this were 10min x 23 and of cause shot with a SXV-H9C through...you guest It ! a little ZS 66SD and guided with a ZS 110 on an AP600E mount.

Preprocessing in AA3 and all post-processing in CS2 and of cause a larger image can be found at my site under Most Recent for those that are interested.

M17(The Swan)

Hi All

At about 5,900ly away, in the constellation of Sagittarius shines the emission nebula known as
The Swan(M17)(NGC6618).

Discovered by Messier in 1764 and I'm sure an old favorite of many a stargazer is certainly one object worth returning to every year.

Being very bright and with a reported photographic size of 46 x 47' makes for a great target choice both for small and large equipment.

This image was shot with a SXV-H9C through a ZS 66SD and guided on a AP600E with a ZS110.

Exposure time was not long at 10 minutes x 6 because of clouds so I had some heavy processing to try and deal with the noise but hey,these things happen.

All preprocessing done in Astroart 3 and all post processing in PS(CS2)and of cause for those who are interested a larger image can be found at my site under Most Recent.

NGC 6188

Hi ALL

In the constellation of Ara at a distance of approximately 4400ly lies an emission/reflection nebula designated NGC6188 and a loose open cluster NGC6193.
These two object are immersed in the much larger emission known as Gum53 which is also populated by many dark nebula as well.

This image was shot by me last week and processed by the master technician Bud Guinn.

Exposures were 10 minutes by 18 and all preprocessing done in AA3.
Shot with a SXV-H9C through a ZS 66SD guided on a Ap600E with a ZS110 and shot from a dark site 3 hours south of Sydney at Magellan Observatory.

I hope you enjoy this shot and a big thank you to Bud for his time !
