Apogee 102mm X 550mm Objective??

Posted By Bill Byrd

I know it's a long shot but I'll ask here anyway: Has anyone had any experience with this lens? I'm curious as to its optical performance and as to what kind of cell it comes in. I'm thinking of making a fairly portable, quick look scope and a short focus refractor would be nice.

Hibiscus in TX

This poor plant survived the winter (drug it in and out based on the possibility of a freeze) and was looking pretty run down. It's bouncing back and just started blooming.

Nice...each one! Although I prefer a lab...and I'm mostly a reflector kinda guy...and it looks like I'm gonna end up with a small turbo in my next scope haul..errr, car that is. Love the color of the car!

TX Hibiscus

Our poor hibiscus survived the winter and has put on quite a show this spring. Here's today's bloom with water drops from its morning drink.

Turbo Scope Hauler

Posted By Bill Byrd

Got a new-to-me 2003 PT Cruiser a couple of weeks ago. Turbo so I can get to the observing spot quickly. 8) Sun roof so I can let the scope in the back equalize to the outside temp. Fair amount of room with the rear seats flipped forward. More room if the rear seats are removed. Either way, fun to drive!!

Brick Frog??

Posted By Bill Byrd

This little (~1") guy has been hanging (literally wink ) around our front door for a couple of weeks, usually pretty green since he's a tree frog. Tonight he was in a corner of the bricks and colored to match the bricks as best he could.

Scope Hauler....Hauls Scope

Posted By Bill Byrd

Okay so as equipment goes...I guess this is an accessory?

My new (to me) PT Cruiser is a fairly roomy little vehicle. It's a good daily driver and has plenty of room in the rear for riders (most times) or for scopes when the sky cooperates. I had hauled some of my smaller scopes before tonight but this was the first time to load the "big" scope in back. It's a 14.5" self-made creation. With the rear seats folded forward, there was plenty of room for everything, although I didn't try to cram the big EQ platform in there too. I think it would fit but I figured I'd try the basics first. 8)

Here's a shot from the back.

Moth?

Posted By Bill Byrd

Maybe a hummingbird moth? It was almost 2" long.
Pic taken in darkness so the focus could be better. :S
