I voted this morning at 7:30. It took me about 20 minutes to get through the line for the national/state election. That was held at the local community center. I then had to walk over from the community center to town hall for the town election. That took about 30 minutes. The lines were moderately long. On the way to work I passed a few other polling places were the lines were very long. I've got my "I voted" sticker on, which can be used for free coffee at Starbucks, free food at Chick-Fil-A, or a free donut somewhere I can't remember.

Since I live in the DC area and Representative Jim Moran is from northern VA I get to hear a lot of things he says on the news. He has said some doozies in the past. This played on the news this morning. My hope is that his views are in the minority. While there are a lot incentives to suceed, financial incentive is big one for a lot of people. If you remove that, what happens?

I just read this a short a time ago. I read numerous books he wrote, mostly good, some not so good. I think enjoyed the first Jurassic Park the most followed by The Andromeda Strain.

Looking around parts of the world you see some governments change hands in violent ways or some countries with militaristic or religious dictatorships were people have little hope of change. Then look at USA. Our country just elected a new leader who is far different than the previous one and we didn't fire a shot or have coup or a revolution, it's amazing. My guy didn't win, but damn I sure love how we do things here. So if you're unhappy with the results, look at it from a different perspective. Besides if we don't like how things are going, we get to change things again in two and four years from now.

Surfings triple crown starts today and you can watch it all live on the web for free. The competition is on Hawaii's north shore. It starts at Haleiwa, then goes to Sunset Beach, and final ends in December at Pipeline. It's always an awesome show and not something you'll see on TV.

Though what he says seems like a great idea on the surface it might, IMO, lead to less productivity. In my career I've been involved in a number of conference calls, some of which have involved numerous EPA and State regulators around the country. It's a good way to get things done without leaving your office. I find though some of the most productive meetings I have are at actual conferences. Putting heads together at a casual lunch with people you don't routinely see can be very productive. It's especially good if you need funding. You use more energy to attend a meeting or conference but it yields more long-term gains.
