M16- The Eagle nebula

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi All,
Here is the third and last shot I took 2 weekends ago. This shot posed alot of problems for me. It is 12x10 minutes and for some reason, the subframes didn't want to line up correctly. Normally, I align in Maxim, but had to take these images into Registar to get them aligned. Blooming was also tough to correct.
Comments/suggestions always welcomed...
Thanks for looking,

Don Spencer

Thor's Helmet

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi All,
After about a 7 month imaging layoff, I finally broke out the scope and camera. This is a combination of 10 X 10 minute exposures taken through a Meade 12" LX200 @F/3.3.
St-7ME and a Lumicon 13nm Ha filter.
Image taken from my Driveway.
Thanks,
Don Spencer

M1

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi All,
Here is another image taken on the 17th of Jan., 2005. I had some real processing issues with this one and with some indepth discussions with a fellow, more experienced Astro imager, we are suspecting that the 3.3 focal reducer on my 12" LX200 may not be a good fit. Let me know what you all think (in the mean time, I have ordered a 6.3 FR). Image Specs as follows:
Meade 12" LX200 @f/3.3
Lumicon 13nm Ha filter
ST-7ME,guided using internal guider
10x10 minute exposures.
Mag. 4 at best, as I am in a Eastern subburb of San Diego
Flats and darks calibrated in MaximDL
Processing done in Photoshop CS

Thanks,
Don Spencer

IC434- The Horsehead

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi All,
I got a chance to aquire some data last night on the Horsehead nebula. The photo is a combination of 6 x 15 minute exposures taken with my ST-7ME through Lumicon's 13nm Ha filter. The Telescope is a Meade LX200 operating at F/3.3.

M1- so,so image

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi All,
Had some issues with guiding and seeing on this image, but the detail is the best I have gotten to date.
8 x 15 minute exposures, 12"LX200 @f/3.3, ST-7ME, Lumicon's night sky filter...
Here is a comparison to the old version currently on my web site...

Horsehead, Again!

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi All,
Since we are under perpetual clouds and rain here in Southern California (no end in site!)and I had to stay home from work with a sick child, I decided to reprocess my Horsehead image. This time, I ran it through the "Minimal filter" only once, controlled the star bloating a little better, and used a sigma combine to combine the image. The result was a little better detail and a more "natural" looking shot, at least to me anyway. Let me know what you all think...

Processing: controlling star bloating.

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi all,
I just wanted to share with you all, a technique that was recently taught to me.

I am not a very good tutorial writer, but I think this should do the job.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

M51 from 2/2004

Posted By Don Spencer

Hi All,
All this rain we are getting has me has me bored out of my goard, so I have been going back and re-processing some older images. Here's M51 from this time last year. This was shot with no filter under about mag 3 to 4 skies, so the light pollution gradiant was a little tough to deal with.
Thanks for looking,
Don
Almost forgot: 12" LX200 w/3.3FR and ST-7ME
