out of the loop

Posted By dietmar hager

hi my friends,

just wanted to give a life-sign from here.
I`ve been out of the loop for business and more importantly for private reasons the last weeks.
I had to travel a bit and currently I`m deep in final preparations of our new house.
we have already started to transport boxes, furnitures and stuff,...it`s a bit stressing, not a single day off, but ... fun.
no time for astrophotografy,...and BTW no clear skies in weeks here...

I have seen so many pretty pictures here right now - guys, You all have been very busy!!! and successful!!!
congrats on all those splendid results!

what a pleasure to witness this!

keep shooting (for me) as my dec-drive refused to cooperate last night...You know: one night time for fotography and then the mount brakes... I wanted to image draco trio,...but ... You can`t win them all.

all the best to You!
Dietmar

hi folks,

after having completed the move to our new house, this afternoon the "dark ages" ended here:
I have internet access and a telephne!
oh my - it takes You to sense 3 weeks to be off line in order to appreciate being aonline again,... :S

here is a most recent image I have taken these days from ngc 6207:

9" TMB Apo f/9 SXV H16 luminance 2.5 hours (10 min subframes)
9" TMB Apo f/6.5 (astrphysics reducer) SXV M25C for color info

astroart4, ps cs2, ccd sharp.

best wishes to You
and
it`s so cool to "see" You all again in ther www!!!

m27 with 9"

Posted By dietmar hager

hi folks,

finally a clear sky in the night.
seeing was very good this time 6-7/10 !!!
that is rare at my place.
transparency could have been better, and moon was up - even it was close to the horizon, contrast was no good.

9" TMB Apo f/6.8
SXV M25C 3.8 hours
astroart4, ps cs2

hi friends,

since we have absolutely no chance for imaging due to bad weather I reprocessed the data of ngc 6207:

I took luminance data with the monochrome SXV H16 and added color with my OSC SXV M25C.

I did this cos I could not be certain to have a couple of nights for ha-alpha,r,g,b.

it was a test to see, if the data from these different CCDs might be combinable. luckily it worked...

here we are:
http://www.stargazer-observatory.com/6207.html

data:
Date: 13.7.2007 - seeing 6/10; transp. 7-8/10

Scope: 9" TMB Apo f/9 SXV H16 (f/7 SXV M25C)

CCD: SXV H16 2,5 h luminance; SXV M25C 2,8 h for colors

Software: AstroArt4 image acqu. guiding, preprocessing. Also Maxim DL for luminance data

Processing: postprocess. PS CS2 and Pix InSight LE

thanks for looking everyone!

NGC 7331 + friends

Posted By dietmar hager

hi guys,

this is the result of 2 nights.
on monday 13th, the first night of both, I have encountered conditions that were so great!
seeing was superb! and transparency at its very best!
guys, we saw M33 with bare eyes! stars up to 6m7 !!!
yesterday the night was also very good, but by far not so hot as monday night.
so it was about time to go for a new target. I have imaged 7331 once with my late h9c - but this time I wanted to catch 2 flies with one strike:
stephans 5 and the deerlickgroup should be framed.

data:
date: 13th + 14th of august 07
scope: 9" TMB Apo f/6.8 (160 3" astrophysics reducer)
CCD: SXV M25C
7.8 hours exposure time (9+12 min subs)
AstroARt4, Maxim DL, CCD sharp, Registax reprocessing
Photoshop and Pix Insight LE postprocessing

all images can be seen here:
http://www.stargazer-observatory.com/7331.html

thanks for lookijg everybody!

comparing 2.1 hours vs 7.8 hours exp.time

Posted By dietmar hager

hi folks,

cloudy nights - no new data - so I was playing around with old data.
here is a comparsion between an image of 7331 I have taken last year and this year.

the data is on the image.
except:
image acquireing software last year: SX oroginal - 2,4 and 6 min subs
i.a. software this year: astroart 4

to me it is quite astonishing, that there are only a little more stars in the background,...perhaps there are simply not more in this region...
on the other hand those almost 4times more data brought up star colors very nicely. (and also the galaxy)
difference in detail is mostly due to better seeing and transparency - and of yourse more single frames to reduce issues from the CCD.
well, one could expect that after 4times more exp.time there would also be more luminosity in the galaxy's periphery...but I think I would have to add much more time for this purpose...

here is the image with all data:

thanks for looking,

Dietmar

hi folks,

this is dedicated to all those whow are looking for a large format CCD. particularly a one shot color CCD.

I hope this helps in making up your mind!

5" f/6 double refractor

Posted By dietmar hager

hi folks,

let me proudly present my new equipment for visual observation.
it is a 5" f/6 double apochromatic refractor on a alt/az fork mount and 3pod.

here ar esome images of this item.

http://www.stargazer-observatory.com/binoptic.htm

as soon as I have some fl experinece I'll tell you all.

my dealer was Markus Ludes APM and Markus Schumann was the manufacturer - by laying eyes and hands on this item the very first time - quite obviously he is a very skillful specialist.
I have only observed some trees yet - but the 3d effect there is just overwhelming!

comet holmes passes lots of stars

Posted By dietmar hager

hi guys,

after being out of the 'astro-processing-loop' I enjoyed handling my equipment.
after upgrading my Starlight Xpress SXV M25C to an "F" version I was curious to work with it again.

I noticed lots of stars in the area holmes passed by last night so I tried to focus on them in this image.

data:
Date: 31.10.2007 - seeing 4-5/10; transp. 4-5/10

Scope: 9" TMB Apo f/6.8 using Astrophysicsreducer
CCD: SXVF M25C - 6x15 seconds
Software: AstroArt4 image acquisition, preprocessing
Processing: postprocess. PS CS2

this is the version with the green halo - as it appeared in the double refractor.

please check the full scale also.
http://www.stargazer-observatory.com/holmes-full.html

the visual view last night was deeply impressive.
in my 5" double refractor we saw the coma as a light greenish haze around the comet. it so huge!
the 20" dobsonian revealed the stars I talked about.
most impressive was the view woth the baader bino adapter attached to the 9" scope - that was cool!

thanks for looking and - comments are welcome.
