A couple of new toys.....

Posted By Michael Sandy

......in the People's Republic of Kalifornia.

I finished building up a few evil black guns that are compliant with the silly PRK DOJ rules. One is a SAM-R type .223 with Magpul, LaRue, Geissele, Nightforce parts:

Any Glock lovers out there?

Posted By Michael Sandy

After years of 1911 and S&W Revolver snobbery......I broke down and bought a Glock. It took so time for me to adjust to the trigger (can't say that I will ever be "fond" of it) but the guns just grow on you after a while. Functional looks, stone cold reliable, and affordable.......not a bad combination. I now owns four of them - models 30SF, 17, 26, & 34. Anybody else growing Glock in your gun safe?

Talon SS - putting the fun into backyard plinking

Posted By Michael Sandy

Anyone shoot air rifles out there? I picked up PCP gun - a Talon SS a few weeks ago. What a great little shooter that thing is! Smaller than dime sized groups at 25 yards, quiet, and a 22 cal punch. Highly recommended!

I have also received the note from AP that my name has come up for a 130 GTX. You had to have joined the list about the same time as I did.......I'm thinking that was about 1999. After 16-17 years I haven't decided yet whether to buy or pass, but I don't think selling it is appropriate in any case. The next guy on the list has waited just about as long as us, why would you flip the scope to someone that hasn't done their time? The possibility of turning a couple of bucks profit just isn't worth the tone we'd set in this unique community of amateur astronomy. :S

Sorry - the rain is my fault....I got a new mount the day it started raining. Don't worry, it should clear up in another week or so. I hope nobody gets a new astro toy for Christmas!

Types of H-alpha filters

Posted By Michael Sandy

Hi Bob,

Yes, there is another class of filters. They are very narrowband filters (3 to 15 nm) that can pass H-alpha, H-beta, OIII or several other important wavelengths. Check out this site for a nice discussion http://www.astrodon.com/EmissionFilters.html .

Enjoy!

M13

Posted By Michael Sandy

Hi Mark - I shot M13 the other night also. It was the first time I've shot a cluster. Not sure I resolved as deeply into the core as you did. I can only hope to have 300mm of aperture to work with someday. I'd welcome comments...
