What rhetoric caused the violence that caused an Assassination attempt on Trump? Probably those who call him Hitler and say he's a threat to DemocracyPosted By James Brown |
We disagree on this James. I agree with Richard, and presumably Greg and Chris, that it is far more likely that the left's "Existential Threat to Democracy/fascist/Hitler" rhetoric led us to this moment.Originally Posted by James Lacey

The funny thing is that Rich's behavior is far more offensive than what he thinks Russ did. Only Rich has this legendary lack of self-awareness.
Russ is right. There is inappropriate rhetoric on both sides, and any honest accounting clearly shows that the right-wing wins in the violent political rhetoric category. Both sides should wake up and cut it out in an ideal world, but we all know that will not happen. Trump was pumping his fist in the air and saying, "Fight, fight, fight!" immediately after it happened. I have no doubt Trump will use this incident as a rallying cry and call it a left-wing effort to silence him. It will appeal to his supporters' emotions, grievances, and victimhoods, and they will never see how the incendiary rhetoric of Trump and the MAGA movement helped to lead us to this moment.
