The Sturgis Fallout

Posted By Rod Kaufman

Just following the spread:
"State health officials said Monday that 105 South Dakotans who attended the Sturgis motorcycle rally “prior to becoming ill” now have COVID-19."
236 cases thus far counting those in other states traced back to Sturgis. The tally continues from that "F that Covid19 s**t" crowd...
"Minnesotans who tested positive visited campgrounds and bars at the rally, so it’s difficult to connect any of the cases to a particular location in Sturgis, said Kris Ehresmann, the Minnesota director of infectious diseases, according to the Star-Tribune newspaper.
Thousands of people attended that event, and so it’s very likely that we will see more transmission,” Ehresmann said."

So 460,000 attended and ONE died so far after a month or more?  What a tragic event.

Nothing like fear mongering on your part is there.
We'd think we would have more compassion from a right to lifer like yourself. I think he's likely more than somebody who simply died with a pre-existing condition. He likely was an American icon, a 60 year old proudly riding his Harley down the street in Sturgis. Biker attire, biker helmet, biker leather jacket with "Born To Be Wild" emblazoned on the back, biker boots with buckles, Levi jeans, and studs or rivets along the seams. Probably sipped his last beers at one eyed jacks.  Enjoyed the close camaraderie with his buddies at the bars. He could be anyone of those bikers but to you, he's just another 60 year old who you think had a pre-existing condition and, if he did, he'd be there anyway. And he was...

If you missed your chance at Sturgis, there's another happening right now at the South Dakota county fair!
Meanwhile, "On Aug. 7, the opening day of the rally, South Dakota had roughly 9,000 COVID-19 cases, according to the health department. By Sept. 3, positive cases had risen to 14,000. The state's positivity rate also rose, from 6% for the 14 days before Aug. 7, to 15% for the 14 days before Sept. 3."
"A high positivity rate can be a sign that a state is only testing its sickest patients and failing to cast a net wide enough to accurately capture community transmission, according to Johns Hopkins University. The World Health Organization recommends that governments get their positivity testing threshold below 5%."

Sorry but that is just not a lot to be concerned about considering the big picture.....

Did you see the Trumptoids today at his N Carolina rally? You would have thought it was Sturgis all over again...

First in a bar, now in the state...
"The bar-goer visited One-Eyed Jack's Saloon in Sturgis on August 11 from noon to 5:30 p.m. while able to transmit the virus to others, health officials said. Anyone who visited the saloon during that period should monitor for symptoms for 14 days after the visit."
"South Dakota is one of 12 US states that have seen an increase in new cases this past week compared to the week prior, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The state's seven-day average of new daily cases has increased since last July and topped 100 new daily cases on Tuesday."

One might wonder why, in general, the entire market is doing as well as it is. Afterall, we're in a heavy duty recession. The best explanation I've read so far was yesterday in CNN business by some investment analyst. He stated the market was "forward-looking" up to an expected expansion at some point. I guess that's best explanation I've seen so far...
