Israeli Gun Control Laws/Mass Shootings

It looks like their law would significantly reduce the potential of an Orlando-style mass killing:

Perhaps.....should work equally as well as the laws against drugs no?

How many with "give 'em a fighting chance" Trump Vs the neasayers from the NRA?

I would agree that if one is drinking then one shouldn't be carrying..... Then again had someone been carrying there is every chance a lot less people would have died. Perhaps there is merit to the way some sheriffs back in the day handled things. Check in your guns when you come to town. Going to the bar and drinking? Check your gun at the bar, not drinking? Keep your gun.....Stiff penalties if discovered to be drinking and carrying.....just spit balling.

Geez, how bad does it have to get?

Hmmmm 61 words out of over 1200 matched outside of common speech. Just doesn't seem like enough to call it plagiarism to me. Not to mention there are a number of Obama speeches that contains similar plagiarisms yet no fuss was made over them (till now of course)

Ohh and correction...its 61 out of over 1300 not 1200 smile

You lefties are a hoot lol Speaking of the "plagiarism" from last night, I didn't know there were copyrights on platitudes. There was nothing said that any of us hasn't said before in some way or another. "I believe that children are our future..." blah, blah, blah. Give me a break.

50 More Republicans against Trump

Patrick Keafer said:

[i] "From a foreign policy perspective, Donald Trump is not qualified to be president and commander-in-chief. Indeed, we are convinced that he would be a dangerous president and would put at risk our country's national security and well-being.

Most fundamentally, Mr. Trump lacks the character, values, and experience to be president. He weakens US moral authority as the leader of the free world. He appears to lack basic knowledge about and belief in the US Constitution, US laws, and US institutions, including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent judiciary.

In addition, Mr. Trump has demonstrated repeatedly that he has little understanding of America's vital national security interests, its complex diplomatic challenges, its indispensable alliances, and the democratic values on which US foreign policy must be based."

Trump jumps the shark

"If she gets to pick her judges," Trump said, "nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is."

He is completely and utterly insane. The above statement is a criminal act. The secret service should round him up for questioning....

Dave

Trump commenting on the power of 2nd Amendment supporters is an assassination threat:

** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
** Obama to Latino supporters: “Punish your enemies.”
** Obama to supporters: “I’m itching for a fight.”
** Obama to UAW mob: “Fight for me!”

But all of the above is just fine right??? LOL

Auction Question - noob.

Posted By Greg Shaffer

David Cotterell said:

I plan to sell high-end scope via auction - I'll probably post the advert tomorrow.

I have a question about the commitment made by the both the seller and the high bidder.

I will be putting delivery conditions in place. Basically, I will deliver to anyone on or near a line from Toronto to the Okie-Tex Star Party or anyone who will drive to meet me in person along that line.. I will clearly state that the telescope will not be shipped to anyone, no matter where they live. A second delivery/meet opportunity will be when I drive to Chiefland FL in October...

Here's my question: What if the winning bidder ignores my warning - lives in Europe or Alaska or Nova Scotia and won't drive to meet me. Must I still sell to him? Am I forced to have the stuff crated and shipped? Am I allowed to back out of the deal if such a person wins the auction?

I plan to put dire warnings about these delivery limitations in the advert so there should not be a clarity problem...

Thanks, in advance, for the help.

Dave

99.99999999999% positive that as long as you describe the exchange/delivery terms clearly in the auction you will not be under any obligation to go beyond the terms you set for delivery. Of course there can be exceptions such as the buyer has a problem beyond their control come up that prevents them meeting the agreed upon terms of delivery (or you for that matter). You might give that some thought and put some verbiage in the auction terms to address such a contingent. After all "stuff" happens to the best laid plans of men and mice smile

"Carrots and Sticks"

Posted By Greg Shaffer

Rod Kaufman said:

Trump's policy statement on the Israeli-Palestinian question is officially "neutral".I expected more from him. Maybe he doesn't want to lose the neo-nazi vote,.As far as Clinton's goes, I'm afraid to look.
Now, Israel has offered a new approach: the Palestinian areas that don't produce terrorists get carrots in the form of economic aid and will prosper economically while those that harbor terrorists will get the bad end of the stick:
http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Liberman-unveils-new-carrot-and-stick-policy-for-West-Bank-Palestinians-464360
Israel has tried ceding land with an advanced greenhouse on it so the Palestinians could grow their own food but they looted and pillaged it and used the land to fire missiles at Israel.
I hope the carrots and sticks approach works...

Until the enlightened (aka civilized) societies are willing to drop the civilized veneer and use an indiscriminate boot on the throats of those who wont evolve with the rest of society we are going to be fighting the battle with these miscreants forever.....

How much is a 12.5 F5 Discovery Truss Dob worth?

Posted By Greg Shaffer

Richard Johnson said:

What is a fair price to offer for this scope? I have the option to buy a 12.5 Discovery Truss Dob for $1200.00 US Dollars but the guy said we can work on the price. The fellow selling the scope has had it for about 8 years he said and he purchased it at his astronomy club from another member he knew personally. He said the other guy owned it for quite a while but I have no exact time period. I dont know when they first started making this model or who made the mirrors.

This is the ad....
Discovery 12.5" f5 truss tube dobsonian telescope. Premium coded optics, 8x50 finder, 2" focus er with 1.25" adapter. Also included Orion Sky Wizard digital setting circles.

https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/for/5732637635.html

No eyepieces are in the sale and no collimator. The Mirror has never taken out of its cell. Owner says the views are very nice. That is all the info I have on it until I tread across town 30 miles to go look at it.

Thanks for looking people and any comments are appreciated.
I have Eyepieces and a laser collimator but looking to buy a new collimator also.

I would lean towards the Discovery myself.... Terry Ostahowski has a pretty decent reputation for good to great mirrors and that's very likely who made the primary and probably the 2ndary too. Particularly if he is willing to negotiate on the price. $1200 isn't terrible but I would offer him no more than a $1000 and see what happens. Given the age I would give the optics a close look and much prefer to work out a time to be able to test it on the sky.....
