Do you have some evidence that Steve Scalise Altered anything? He reposted what he thought was authentic.
I know for a fact that Joe Biden stated he wants to redirect funding going to police to mental health service.
Your own link verifies that fact, with these words:
Barkan at one point says to Biden: "We can reduce the responsibilities assigned to police and redirect some of the funding into social services, mental health counseling, and affordable housing." He asks if Biden would be "open to that kind of reform."
Biden's response: "I've proposed that kind of reform," Biden says, before giving a lengthy answer about the need to increase funding for mental health services. He notes, "That's not the same as getting rid of or defunding all the police."
Barkan later asks, "But do we agree that we can redirect some of the funding?"
"Yes. Absolutely," Biden says.
So then Biden says flat out he wants to "redirect some of the funds" going to police.
Is there confusion on your part?
Nobody said he was going to defund ALL of the police. He said he was going to take some funds already given i.e. funded to police and remove them to put into mental health and social services.
THAT is DEFUNDING police. Since the funds that WERE going to go to police are now appropriated somewhere else, i.e. NOT to fund police.
Nobody said he was going to defund police to give them ZERO dollars.
Who said that?
If one was going to spend 6 Billion on policing and cuts back over $1.2 Billion and only gives $4.8 Billion, that's called DE-funding police by $1.2 Billion.
If it isn't DE-funding, what IS it.
In terms of economics those are called Fixed costs. When you UN-Fix a cost, you remove that cost or you DE-Fund it.
The fact that Biden is considering re-directing some funding to mental health is not the same thing as defunding the police and mental health issues are common problems police have to deal with on an ongoing basis. I've listened to police detectives urge funding for mental health cases that police come up against. Scalise took down the manipulated video, "But his office still defended him sharing the manipulated video."
