GOP Attack Ads: A New Low

Posted By James Brown

I'm not in Maryland of course, so don't know about the ads you are mentioning, but I doubt they are a new low. Back in the day, (Civil War era) scandalous fabrication about bastard children, prostitutes in the governor's mansion, debauchery even suggestions of murder etc. were the norm for political print attack ads. Smithsonian Magazine had a great article about those practices during a recent election cycle.

I am sure you are familiar with factcheck.org (yes dot-org, Mr. Vice President wink ) It is an invaluable reference as the national ads heat up.

Take care, Jim

GOP Losing Soccer Moms!

Rod Kaufman said:

In my neck of the woods we call them "Saugus sows and Castaic cows". But with burquas in place, who can tell?
I don't how any guy can reproduce with a typical soccer mom. I didn't know any guy could be THAT HARD UP. Must be the viagra. On second thought, with burquas in place, the birth rate might actually go up and viagra sales will go down. So even the drug companies will be POd at the GOP...

I think you are reaching new lows here Rod. Just my opinion of course. Your willingness to create a stereotype of a group of people and then ridicule the stereotype strikes me as really weird.

Yup, It's Clinton's Fault

Hi Akira:

McCain is not the new point man for W. Make no mistake about it.

McCain is positioning himself for '08. When necessary (after the nomination is sewn up, if not before) he will turn on W like a rabid dog to court the disenchanted right.

Help with name of movie?

Posted By James Brown

Darian Rachal said:

Years ago, on Saturday Night at the Movies on NBC, there was a movie about a fellow named Leo who got trapped in a cave at the base of a mountain, somewhere in a rural, desert area with a few people populating the area.

A reporter from back East(?) for some reason was in the area and broke the story. Somehow it became a national story and hordes of reporters came to the area to cover the effort to save Leo.

Eventually, a carnival set up to entertain the people drawn to the area. The reporter was able to go far enough in the cave to talk with the Leo.

After a number of days Leo finally died, the entertainment was over, the carnival packed up and left, and the place returned to it's isolated status.

Anybody remember this movie or who starred in it?

Hi Darian:

Can't say I remember the movie... But this link seems on point:

I Googled "Leo who got trapped in a cave" and this was the first hit. You need to get one of your kids to show you how to search on line. wink (just kiddin' grin )

Hi Maurice:

This is probably an urban legend in the making. Maybe just an exaggeration. Gotta love Snopes. When those "urban legend" bells go off in my brain Snopes is on top of it 99% of the time!
