I am seriously considering voting for Biden this time.  I understand that this is perhaps voting against my own financial interest, although, as I've posted over the years, I strongly believe that the robustness of the US system transcends the man (or hopefully in 2024 Nikki Haley) in the White House.

I watched last night with a part of me hoping that Biden would present an epic fail, giving me cover to hold my nose and vote for Trump again.  Didn't happen.  Instead I was treated to Trump acting like an ass, at least in part confirming partisan caricatures that I've preferred to ignore or minimize.

My vote is not cast, but Trump's performance pushed me firmly toward Biden.  I'll admit I was trending that way, but I'm almost all the way there now.

Well, it's hard to understand how you're still on the fence, particularly after the, "stand back , standby" recitation. You might as well accede to Trump's poll watchers, too. Perhaps Rich Davis could act a surrogate watcher in your case since he lives in relative proximity or you could mail your vote to him first so he can verify its authenticity.
Seriously though, I think you ought to listen to the Mrs and get your decided vote in for Biden and before one of the watchers does get a hold of it...

In any event, I've been watching with great interest your posts on here and other forums since the early 2000's.  I've mostly only passively participated, but its struck me that you've always been on the wrong side of these sorts of arguments.  Refresh my memory, how is it that you've gotten this far?

You can't seem to debate the issues - you need to make silly comments about "cue cards" and the like.   My advice to you if you don't believe the USA leads is to move abroad.  I guarantee you it will provide a sobering perspective to you.  But really, short of that, America survived 8 years of oppressive regulations that President Obama placed on the U.S. economic engine; so you'll survive another 4 of DJT if the election turns that way.
Paul,
You're essentially a new participant to the forum as a poster so, welcome!
Now, let me bring you up to speed on your multifaceted nonsensical post. First, if you had truly been reading this forum you would unequivocally understand that I have been a Biden supporter from the beginning. And this was at a time in which virtually every other poster on the forum had written Biden off as a candidate. He was history in their minds and in the words of their posts. He was toast, period. In the alternative reality of  a popular state run media commentator , Biden was said to be off the ticket even though he had already secured the nomination. In a similar manner, one of our resident Trump apologists "predicted" Biden would not show up for the debate.
That said, I support Biden and his platform and not that of other members of the party. I've never been a fan of certain members of the Jihad squad anymore than I am
of the white supremacy group that carries the Trump message to them on their tee shirts.
So, I supported and contended that Biden would be the Democratic nominee and that puts me on the correct side of the argument(s) in this forum and not on the wrong side of them as you state in your post.
Let's look at another one of your references to " silly comments" like cue cards. If you had looked at the link I included to state run media in my post, you would have seen one of the contributors to Fox and Friends holding up one for Trump. If you have a problem with it, talk to them about it. That identifies a larger problem in that conservative posters in the forum will not look at the links that support one's arguments so perhaps that will change as they realize the fallacy of their positions.
As far as Trump's performance went on the world stage, the world leaders were laughing at him and the embarrassment that he caused to our country. But you don't have to listen to them, all you need to do is to listen to the comments of various GOP senators on Trump's performance, to the effect of, "it was an embarrassment", it was a s--- show, and the like. I'd also refer you to various polls that show Biden's lead has increased after that s--- show... That's your candidate's doing, not mine...

That's from some conservative blog or website. Here's just a teaser on hw inaccurate it is, Trump initially said he didn't know David Duke. Then a video surfaced wherein he had already known about him and talked about him. So, he had to come back later with some statement somebody made up for him to say. It's BS...

I am participating in a dialogue with you, now, because I am amused at what you write and what you believe to be true.  It entertainment for me, nothing more, nothing less.  I've been reading your posts on these subjects as well as telescope/optics related for awhile - at least the mid-2000's - so I'm qualified to make the judgement.

My post must have hit close to home or you would not be so zealous in defense of your somewhat misguided position, yes?

Biden is a very weak candidate.  Weaker then Hillary Clinton.  You, basically, got lucky - if not for South Carolina and Jim Clyburn, Bernie would be the nominee, at least until he had the heart attack, then who knows.  But Biden was dropping out after SC; that is an inarguable point.

I am not defending anyone's behavior at the debate.  Trump would not be my candidate of choice, but he represents my party and I have had a terrific time watching the left become unhinged since he won in 2016.  Trump has done very good things as it pertains to rolling back regulation.  If you work in the private sector and have enjoyed success the last 4 years part of it is due to this de-regulation efforts.  He has also appointed judges up and down the federal system that will not legislate from the bench, only interpret the constitution.

Biden has lost all command of the facts as it pertains to healthcare plan he helped draft.  I don't really care that Trump was an embarrassment.  Did you expect anything different?
After reading your hodgepodge post above, cobbled together by you after reading my posts for years without comment, and then coming to a singular conclusion that somehow, it "must of hit close to home" is utterly ridiculous.  Neither I or Biden "got lucky" and Biden was never dropping out of the race, at anytime, and any notion to the contrary is more Kabuki theater from you and your ilk. Your other statements in your mangled post are cause for discussion in individual threads which they clearly deserve so I don't feel inclined to minimize them here in my response to your nonsense above...

The Future Economy, Better Under Trump Or Biden?

Posted By Rod Kaufman

I've previously posted regarding the majority consensus of American CEOs significantly favoring Biden's economic policies versus those of Trump. Now, the chief economist of Moody's Analytics weighs in:
"Based on our analysis, Biden has it right, and Trump has it wrong."
His reasoning follows:

More republican voter suppression

A balant effort at voter suppression. One of the counties in Texas is the size of Rhode Island.
To vote by mail in Texas you must:
To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

be 65 years or older;
be sick or disabled;
be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or
be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

To request the absentee ballot you must:
Review the absentee ballot application and confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements for voting absentee.
Fill out the application completely.
Submit the request to your local election office. You should request your ballot as far in advance of the election as possible. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is (received by) Friday, October 23, 2020.
When your ballot arrives, read it carefully and follow the instructions to complete it and return it.

Now, thinking as a Republican,  for a suitable, single  drop off box in Colorado, I suggest Mt Elbert. Suggested drop-off attire: hiking gear, grappling hooks, O2 tanks. etc

More republican voter suppression

First, you have to understand that Abbot, while a Republican, is not popular in the party's far-right wing. They are eternally mad at him about something, and it almost always has to do with they think he is not right-wing enough. For example, they are mad at him about our shut-down. They are mad at him about our mask mandate, and they are mad at him for starting early voting six days early on Oct. 13th instead of Oct. 19th. In fact, they are right now in the process of suing him over this, and it's unclear if early voting in Texas will start on Oct. 13th.

Second, unless you are over age 65, it's almost impossible to get a Texas mail-in ballot. So, if this were an attempt at voter suppression, it's not suppressing the vote Republicans would want to suppress; i.e., most older voters vote Republican.

Third, you can always mail your ballot, which most voters will do anyway. Like most systems, you can track your mail ballot too. A drop-off location is not strictly speaking necessary.

Lastly, most counties have only ever had one drop off location, the county clerk's office usually. The sites were expanded due to COVID by local officials, but for example, Tarrant county where I live has only ever had one location.

What is really going on here in my humble opinion is Abbot is trying to appease the far-right wing faction of the party for his political expediency and survival. In other words, he's tossing them a bone, so they will get off his back.
CNN interviewed a judge who oversees the drop sites. According to her, the sites were prepared specifically to manage the drop-off process during covid because they were drive through centers, similar to covid testing sites. Abbot's reasoning for eliminating the sites to all but one per county is to prevent the spread of covid. The man's a frigging liar and I'd expect him to mess with the mail-ins, too...

Wouldn't more drive thru, drop-off sites during a pandemic be a good thing by taking pressure off polling sites where people have to wait in line?
