I Find This Hard To BelievePosted By James Brown |
Probably correlates to inflation Rod. Poorer obese people can not afford as much food, especially junk food.Originally Posted by Rod KaufmanAnd I'm not talking about Trump on this one but...

"The study published in the journal JAMA Health Forum found that obesity nationwide has dropped from 46 percent in 2022 to 45.6 percent last year. The researchers also discovered that obesity has declined substantially in the South, including among women older adults, ages 66 to 75.'
(I seriously doubt that)
"A new research study, that was released in mid-November, found that almost three-quarters of Americans are considered obese or overweight, with greater spikes among those between the ages 5 to 24."
(That's probably more accurate, to say the least)

I Find This Hard To BelievePosted By James Brown |
Hi Rod:
It is much more expensive to eat healthy: fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, etc. Than it is to eat highly processed fattening stuff from Walmart or Costco. So it is not surprising at all that poorer folks tend more toward obesity. Poorer folks spend more of their overall income on necessities so of course they were hit hardest by the inflationary food cost spikes. So I would bet that my theory is more correct than the new Ozempic class drugs. Isn't Ozempic really expensive anyway? Jim

The Telescope-Price Fixing SettlementPosted By James Brown |
I think you are right that the only ones who get any meaningful money are the plaintiff's lawyers. Interestingly, Amazon sent me a notice of this settlement today, and I have never bought a new telescope from any of the above companies, and certainly not through Amazon.Originally Posted by Rod Kaufman"A settlement has been proposed by the Indirect Purchaser Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against Synta Technology Corp. of Taiwan; Suzhou Synta Optical Technology Co. Ltd.; Nantong Schmidt Opto-Electrical Technology Co. Ltd; Synta Canada International Enterprises Ltd.; Pacific Telescope Corp.; Olivon Manufacturing Co. Ltd.; SW Technology Corporation; Celestron Acquisition, LLC; Olivon, USA LLC; Dar Tson (“David”) Shen; Joseph Lupica; Dave Anderson; Jean Shen; Sylvia Shen; Jack Chen; Laurence Huen; and Corey Lee (“Settling Defendants and Co-Conspirators”). The other, non-settling, defendants and co-conspirators are Ningbo Sunny Electronic Co. Ltd.; Sunny Optical Technology Co., Ltd.; Meade Instruments Corp.; Sunny Optics Inc.; Wenjun “Peter” Ni; and Wenjian Wang. The lawsuit claims defendants and co-conspirators (1) unlawfully divided the consumer telescopes market and fixed prices for consumer telescopes and (2) unlawfully attempted to monopolize and conspired to monopolize the consumer telescope market in the United States. The settlement resolves the Indirect Purchaser Plaintiffs claims against the Settling Defendants and Co-Conspirators only."

My guess my question is that counsel(s) will challenge claims which may not stand-up to legal challenges based upon receipts, dates, vendors or whatever so that more of the 32 million settlement remains in the pot and that 1/3 chunk of the pie that the lawyers get is commensurately accommodated?...

Economic fallout from Trump mass deportations could eclipse Great Recession: ReportPosted By James Brown |
I agree. Here is my logic on this issue:Originally Posted by Brian McFarland

1. Genuine mass deportation would indeed grind the economy in the sectors you mention to a halt. (Besides being impossible to implement.
2. The government is not going to grind the economy to a halt on purpose.
3. Therefore, there will be no "mass" deportations.
So my conclusion is that Trump is blowing smoke about mass deportations, and also that the press that breathlessly reports these stories is blowing smoke too, knowing full well from their contacts inside the government that there is no true desire and no effective means to implement mass deportations. Makes for a good campaign promise and a good opposition story though!
I would not be surprised to see an effort to deport those who engage in criminal activity beyond sneaking in. Also the rate of illegal immigration can be curbed a ton without impacting the economy.
Do you agree, or am I missing something? Seriously.

Corrupt Racist Bastard DA in NYC Alvin Bragg gets it shoved up his fat ass!Posted By James Brown |
I never understood the immunity argument applied to this case. Trump was not president when he paid the hush money, and he was not president when he booked the payment as legal fees. Of course immunity does not apply.Originally Posted by Rod Kaufman"Judge rules Trump’s conviction withstands Supreme Court immunity decision"
"A New York judge upheld a jury’s verdict that made President-elect Trump a felon, ruling the conviction in the hush money case can withstand the Supreme Court’s new test for presidential immunity."
"The judge has not yet ruled on Trump’s efforts to toss the case entirely now that he is president-elect."

On the other hand, this application of a the NY law and the handling of the case is seriously flawed under any reasonable standard of due process, and I still expect the NY appeals system to toss it on due process grounds. Trump will eventually win this battle, you can count on it. J

The Dow And Trump: Reality Sets In: First Nine Day Loss Since The 70sPosted By James Brown |
The broader market is doing fine, I am pleased to note. (No doubt there will be some sort of downturn you can pin on Trump, but it has not happened yet.)Originally Posted by Rod Kaufman“Wall Street is waking up to the fact that a Trump presidency might not be as great for stocks as some people hoped,” said David Russell, global head of market strategy at TradeStation. “Financials and industrials jumped on his win but now may have to face higher rates and trade uncertainties, and healthcare faces its greatest political risks in recent memory.”
