10" f10 and 6.3 interchangability

Posted By Rod Mollise

Randolph Torres said:

I recently aquired an 10" f6.3 ucht scope minus a corrector plate. I have an emc 10" f10. Both optical tubes are the same length. Which leads me to believe that the difference between the f10 and the f6.3 is in the secondary mirrors. Sooo, can I move the f10 emc secondary and corrector plate to the other ota and make an f10 ucht out of it?

You can give it a try and see how well it works...no guarantees, but it may be OK.

Mercury as Holiday Season Evening Star

The elusive little planet Mercury has begun its apparition as an evening star

I always get tickled when Mercury is referred to as "elusive." Well, it does stick close to the Sun, but at good times in its apparitions it is INCREDIBLY prominent. When I've pointed the little guy out to a novice or a layperson, the usual reaction is "OH MY GOD! THAT'S MERCURY? I've been seeing it all week; just didn't know what it was!"

I have just started moon imaging with my recently acquired C-8 and ToUCam Pro . Experienced imagers - suggestions and advice are welcome.

Clavius. Prime (F/10). Stack of best 150/600. Processed in Registax, moderate use of wavelets and masking. Seeing was so-so. Concerns are primarily collimation and focus. I think I am close, but could use some work.

Thanks! Ed

Very nice. But...get the focal length up...to around f/30...and up the frame number.

Has anyone seen one of these? Uncle Rod? were these an sct or an R-cretien?has anyone even seen a 16-inch? and where. thanks for any feedback, kim jenner

Nope...these were genuine SCTs quite similar to the other Blue/Whites. Mr. Johnson did have a very early large scope that was a convertible Newtonian/Cassegrain. As you can imagine, only a small (relatively speaking) number of C22s were made. I've seen all the rest of the Blue and Whites ...C6s...C8s...C10s...C12s...C16s (fairly commonplace)...but never (in person) a 22. Maybe a dozen were delivered (by Tom Johnson himself, usually), with perhaps half that number being known today. My good buddy Bob Piekiel _does_ have a C22, and if you are interested in them and in the other early Celestrons, I highly recommend his book, _Celestron: The Early Years_ which you can buy rat cheer on A-Mart.

Best Values in Christmas Scopes??

If someone says they have $100 to spend on a telescope, what do you tell them?

Jon

Save a little more, get the StarBlast. If that is just impossible, the Firstscope is a worthy alternative.

Zhumell 12 vs Orion 12 Intellitruss??

Help,
Trying to make up my mind which scope to buy??? I probably am over analyzing as I have spent several weeks researching the differences. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Unless you fancy lugging a water heater around, get the Orion...or have a look at the SkyWatcher collapsible tube 12.

Car thieves have new tricks

Posted By Rod Mollise

Roland Christen said:

Those remote locks on our cars have given car thieves a new way to break into our vehicles without keys. All they have to do is grab our security code from the airwaves, use their laptop to create a key, send that code back over the air to unlock your vehicle remotely. Codes are easy to steal - anytime you use your remote to lock or unlock your car, it sends the code, which can be grabbed by anyone who has a suitable receiver. It only takes a thief seconds to do this.

They can then gain entry to your vehicle and steal whatever is in it - your laptop, wallet, purse or whatever you leave inside while you are at a rest stop, or grocery store. Beware. Don't use your remote to lock or unlock your car in a public parking lot. Use the inside lock when you exit the car, it does not send the code over the airwaves.

Isn't technology wonderful?

Rolando

Sometimes yes, sometimes know. Evidence this is indeed happening?

Any Reports on Zhumell 100 eyepieces?

Are there any reports on the performance of the 100 degree Zhumell 9 and 16 mm eyepieces? The only one I saw was on an "indoor test." Anything else available at this point?
I was thinking of waiting until Owl services finds a hidden stash of them and sells them for fifty bucks! Then I could buy two for my binoviewer grin

One person posted a short opinion of them on CN. His verdict, "OK, not as good as a Nagler." Sounds reasonable, but all things considered, I'd say "'Inconclusive,' wait for a real review by somebody if you're afraid to take the plunge on yer own." LOL

Who Was Jesus? (peace be upon him)

Now is a christmas time ,let talk about Isa(Jesus){peace be upon him}!!!!!!

Who was he? Assuming he actually existed, something for which there is room for doubt, he was a somewhat radical Jewish rabbi. He was not a god, he was just a man like you and me--his followers conveniently transferred some of Dionysus' schtick including the resurrection business to him. He didn't have super powers. He didn't die and come back to life magically. Likely he would be appalled if he really did get resurrected today and found the Gentiles _worshiping him_. ;-)
