Mars December 4, 2005

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

This was shot in soft seeing...I couldn't get a "snap" focus, yet some frames seemed very nice. The resulting image feels soft. I also included an image shot with my ED100 with a 5x Powermate and 1.5" extension (F/54).

Hi all,

Still trying to get caught up. These images were shot in the best seeing for a while here. This time of year the best seeing takes place when the air is at it's worst...

Saturn Decamber 1, 2005 again

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

The nice thing about electronic images is that we can almost always know we can improve them depending on our patience level. The attached is a prime example. The top image is as I posted it a while back. We have had a steady stream of clouds so I decided to try again. I reprocessed the original Avi but this time did a Mitchell resample at 1.5x. I toned down my post-processing process and added a bit of gamma. The final image has a lot more data in it than I first thought and (at least to me) looks pretty. grin

Hi all,

The cloudy skies here have allowed me to beging to get caught up with back images. I only have 1 more set to process, then the skies can clear up again. Notice the blue haze over the SPC area. Jim Phillips also noted it in his images from about the same time.

Jupiter December 14, 2005

Hi all,

Jupiter was only 31 degrees up when I shot this. I used a dispersion wedge, but I'm still learning how to use it. Anyway, Jupiter will get better in a couple of months!!

A puzzling set of Deimos images.

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Here is a link to two images that are baffling me. They are images of Deimos I got on the evening of December 19, 2005 (early a.m. UT...times on the images). Deimos shows up nicely, but there are two additional stars in the field that I cannot account for. The Starry Nite representations show stars to magnitude 16 and none are in the places. Phobos was too close to Mars to be seen. Does anyone else have another chart that they can look at and see if Starry Nite is missing a couple of stars? Comparing them to Deimos, the stars would be about 12th mag. Otherwise, I'm quite happy with the images.

Thanks!!!

Hello Mars....

Posted By Paul Maxson

Hi all,

Another Mars shot is fair seeing. The seeing went downhill shortly after these images were shot so I'm glad I got what I got. Even though it's getting smaller, Mars is putting on a nice show.

Hi all,

It's still small and very low (34 degrees in this image), but for what it is worth... smile
