The Flying Bat - Sharpless 129

Posted By Charles Hakes

Nice bat catch. I like those wide shots with your 150mm lens. It looks like the left side has more background red, at least compared to the right. Is that "real"? If so, it may be worth some more time.

That dust looks nice on this monitor. I can feel your processing challenges with this dim stuff.

Nice shot. I agree - lots going on in this field. I am not sure I would expect much H-alpha though. But that is why you try it, right? To see what is there.

M82 half of mosaic

Posted By Charles Hakes

Looks nice. A mosaic is a challenge I haven't tried yet. (Still working on those single images coming out like I want.) lt looks like you are planning lots of overlap on your mosaic pictures. The colors look a little washed out on my monitor - how are you combining?

Sitting back from the image I would say I like the less stretched one. However, I really like looking at the details of the one that brings out the fainter stuff. I think they both could use a tiny bit more color. Were the stars saturated with the two minute exposures? If so, that would explain the colors being white.

I think that looks great. I am curious about your combination of the different exposures though. ...all combined at once? or maybe get 3 different "good" exposures? Also, "star repair on edge stars"? I think of star repair as fixing blooms, but most of those edge stars are really tiny. (And they do look sharp, BTW.) I hope you don't mind if I try to steal processing techniques here.

APM TS OAG will not work with my ML8300 setup!

Posted By Charles Hakes

Might need a picture for totally understanding the setup. Sounds like the guide camera "nose" is longer than you want so the prism has to be adjusted farther out? What about an extension ring on the main camera? That would mess up the "ideal" length between reducer and camera, but might make the two cameras be more in sync? Or do I have this exactly backwards?

Stars aren't saturated are they? That could also do it.

Great image. (50 hours!!! Wow.) Remote operation sure sounds warm.
